1615 hrs (local) - the wind is blowing, the snow is swirling (some snow, not much, not accumulating) and Princess is tucked into the corner with her head down in the gravel and her eyes closed.  The wind is whacking the webcam and ruffling her feathers, but it seems as though she's tucked down far enough and tight enough that the wind is annoying but not pushing her around much.

Ooops, got an itch - bugged her enough that she actually pulled out one of her white underfeathers and now she has it stuck on her beak.  And since she can't/won't get off the eggs she can't use her foot to remove it. Very funny watching her try to shake it off.  When she had to shuggle the eggs, she managed to use the gravel to scrape it off and now she is back to her dignified self.

Just a point about the wind - it seems to me, from what I've managed to see today, she pretty much has the wind figured out, or at least so far.  I haven't seen her get caught or pushed or flipped by the wind at all this year, she stays low, close to the wall or broadside and though she gets fluffed, he doesn't seem to be tossed around like last year.  But I guess with gusts to 60 this afternoon/evening we'll have to see.  So far so good though.

1200 hrs (local) - Princess is on the nest...  she's tucked up in the north corner so she's got as much cover as is available on the ledge.  Mostly she's had her face planted in the gravel and occasionally looks around, but she's keeping pretty flat.

Bet you wish you'd chosen the penthouse suite now, don'tcha girl??!

1200 hrs (local) - Princess is on the nest and cross-ways to the wind.  Its fluffing her feathers along her back and sometimes the swirlies giver her a definite "push" but she's tucked up in the north corner so she's got as much cover as is available on the ledge.  Mostly she's had her face planted in the gravel and occasionally looks around, but she's keeping pretty flat.

Taken in the last 5 minutes ...

Especially when it's only 3 degrees and the "normal" temperatures are a high of 20 degrees and a low of 3.

True, the wind is not good - but at least there's much less rain & no snow - seems a 'perfect' day is REALLY hard to come by around here!!!  :-\
