As Trey was rearranging himself on the chicks to face us, at 6,  it always amazes me that the chicks aren't getting squished as he hunkers down (especially when he's head down, tail up), it made me think that the chicks are stuck between a rock and a falcon ..luckily a caring, feathery, 'knows what he's doing' falcon, but it still is hard to imagine they're not getting squished too much!  If only one could walk in a peregrine falcon chick's shoes for just a moment!

Now I am very happy ;D  The cam didn't freeze up too much while we were viewing the feeding/chick pile.  I got a great look this time.  Yippee

1402 hrs (local) - Trey is housekeeping ...  :D

Every year I forget how funny the adults look when they are brooding in the half-crouch position - its always head down, tail feathers up!

Sorry, its Princess not Trey - now that she has her head up I can see her "crown".  And she's eating with the chicks ... girl gets hungry sitting on chicks ...

... chicks not "piling" want more food ... Trey's come in now to babysit ...

In the Free Press article, check out the photo credits - the ledge photo with the bin showing, is by one of the staff photographers.  The photo of Trey coming off the ledge is by our own Dennis Swayze (photosbydennis)
Cheers to Dennis.  That is an awesome picture of Trey.  8)

1240 hrs (local) - it looks like Princess wants to attack the side of the box again!! Or she's getting her head out of the wind by ducking down low ....

And you can see the wall of the Hotel is changing colour, the sun is starting to slip behind the Hotel.  Temperature is 17.3 right now (forecasted high 18c) and the wind is clocking around N - NNE - NE - E and gusting to 30 km/h.  Suppose to clock around to the SW for tonight which would be okay so long as it actually does it!

just checked out the article in the Free Press, love your quote Tracy, that's exactly what I said when I first heard where they nested ...
I have to admit, I said a bit WORSE stuff than that!!  :P :P

Couldn't CBC put a better picture for their article on the new chicks?
Just made me sad all over. :'(

Its a good picture and very dramatic.  And it does underscore what we are trying to help prevent again this year with the nest-tray.  But I know what you mean about the photo Doreen, that day still just sucks in my memory.  If you want newer photos, check out the Winnipeg Free Press story from this morning - Peregrines nest on ledge again despite losses .

For those of you who can bear to see Kyle retrieving the chicks from the ledge last year, today's CBC story can be found here - Peregrine falcons hatch 3 chicks at Winnipeg Hotel
