No she dumped the storage box that served as the nestbox. It was filled with gravel and she just dumped the gravel on the roof. Where the chicks are sleeping now lol

It is looking rather damp there in Winnipeg, the chicks will be ok with a little rain without mom and dad around?

No rain here yet, nor thunder/lightning but the chicks should be fine - and Princess will come in to help if she thinks she needs to, she's done it before ...

0949 hrs (local) - chicks in full coma mode on the nice new gravel in the corner.  For those concerned about them being able to see over the edge of the ledge while on the gravel, you should know that there is only about 1 inch of gravel there now and the chicks could see over the edge of the ledge before the gravel was added (check Pam's photos).  I think they like that the gravel is "soft" and can be hollowed out to be made more comfortable.  Will be interesting to see if this becomes a favourite nap spot when the sun isn't shining on them and they head for the shade ...

Thanks for all the kind words folks, and it was fun, in part because all I had to focus on was the chicks and banding them, everything else was being handled by someone else - Bob with the rivet gun, Larry on the cam, Dennis taking photos (and Bccs making sure Dennis didn't go over the edge), Greg & Kenny from DA Matthews for making sure we got up and down in one-piece, CBC for coordinating all the wonderful buzz and hosting the live-stream and Shaw for keeping the images flowing to the webcam.  And of course CanadInns and the Radisson for enabling us do what we needed to do to help out the peregrines!

And no blood drawn, knees a little red, jeans need to washed thoroughly and a bunch of video to go through .... yippee-skippee! :D

Was able to watch the banding today, but no posting at work!  Good thing boss was away today, might not have appreciated the 2 hrs I spent watching the falcons!  :P

Great job today Tracy, the only thing I would suggest for you next time is kneepads woman!  Kneedpads!  I was cringing watching you move around on all that gravel on your knees!

I didn't realize that you put a band on both of their ankles, TPC. Why 2 bands each? ???

The band we have to put on is a silver USFWS aluminium band which has an unique 8-9 digit number on it.  Its part of a continent wide process of banding birds, each bird banded (of whatever species - ruby-crowned kinglet or whooping crane) has a unique identifying number.  Problem is that we can't read the number unless we have the bird in-hand.  So, we put a coloured band on the other foot - the colour means wild-hatched or captive-bread and then the numbers/letter combinations are unique and visible with binoculars or spotting scopes or webcams  ;)

Also was that a camera I saw you holding up to the top of each bucket? Were you taking photos up there, as well as banding the chicks?

CBC provided me with a "flip cam" a small hand-held video camera to take up with me.  Because I need to be able to help keep us off the wall and keep my safety line running, I couldn't take video on my way up.  I did manage to get some video of the chicks-n-buckets and some on our way back down when my assistance was not needed.  Don't know if CBC will use it, I do know that because today was a heavy news cycle, the story ran on local 6pm news but if it runs nationally, it may be on tomorrow night - 11pm I think.  I wil post, in the Interview Thread, the website link and more scheduling information for those who want to watch.

PS - I'm moving the Interview Threads to the Radisson Thread, they are "on topic" ...

Fun day!  I haven't had much of a chance to go through my pictures, but how would you like to have been in this hotel room?
