Good morning all! After reading last evening's posts, I think we are all in agreement. We want to see peregrine chicks at the Radisson.

We all love Trey, no one more than Tracey who banded him. We do want him to come back but will root and support Princess and her  ??? partner.

Still, a persistent voice in the back of my head keeps saying HURRY UP, TREY! there's still time.

Will check back later even though today seems like lousy bird spotting weather.

Wow! - Fascinating stuff Carly!! Poor Male, doing his part probably for nothing. Hard to keep our 'Human' emotions out of it - actually, it's impossible!!  :-\ - Let's see what TPC says about our possible scenario with Princess, Trey & Ivy!!  8)

Ballywing:  You might be interested in another situation involving a former mates eggs that is unfolding at Gulf Towers in Pittsburgh.  The resident female was displaced a few weeks ago after laying 2 eggs and the new female of course was ignoring the eggs, meanwhile the male wants to keep on incubating them as they are his.  There have been some interesting 'discussions' on cam between the two of them over the eggs.

Kate gives an interesting description here of where they are in the nesting sequence.   Totally opposite of course from your proposed scenario but it explains the 'female' side of things.  Will be interesting to see what TPC says about how Trey would react should he find eggs upon his return, given he would be at a different stage as well!

Very interesting, thanks for the link, Carly.

Leaving the Bay(downtown) across from the Art Gallery around 6:40.  Looked up (of course) and very high up-  there were 2 falcons circling -going higher- saw them for about 30 seconds and then they disappeared into the cloud cover.  Amazing how it's just lucky timing sometimes - didn't see a thing the night before.

Phanatics may be quiet in the posting but they are reading every word written here....I guarantee that.  We all just would really like Trey to come back.  I have watched him and Princess for 3 years and this would be the 4th.  They have a special place in my heart and I just want more years of the two of them.  I may be a bit selfish but that is how I feel.
If for some reason Ivy ends up being the Dad, then I will root and cheer for all of them.
Like bccs said, "So, let's keep it going guys. Princess is still here, with luck we'll have chicks and they will grow and fledge. To me, that's what it's all about, the continuation of the falcons." that is true.
Exactly - Ditto to all that Moonstar!!!  ;D

That said - TPC, what if Princess & Ivy 'Give it a Go' and then Trey arrives?? - Normally would this mean trouble, ie would Trey give Ivy the 'Boot' ? - and if so and Princess lays her eggs, how do we know whose they are? - Not that it matters in the Raptor world I s'pose - or does it?  ???

You are correct bccs...dancing is involved when female browbeats male and yaks his ear off..male dances to the tune of the female  :-*

The Cliff Notes version of Peregrine Dating:

Boy meets Girl.
Girl ignores Boy.
Boy tries to impress girl with fancy displays of flying and takeout dinners.
Girl accepts boys offers of dinner (or not sometimes especially if she is awaiting an established mate).
Boy and girl go flying and hunting together.
Boy makes scrapes in nestbox where he thinks eggs should be laid.  Girl sometimes choses an entirely different spot but it keeps him busy and out of her hair, or in this case her feathers  ::)
Mating occurs after a suitable period of courting time and after about 2 weeks of mating, egg laying commences.

Well stated Carly, but you forgot to say if there is any dancing involved ::) ;D

looks like Ivy is the one popping in and out of the nestbox.  And what is he doing in that box you ask?  Making one yo-honking size scrape in the back undercover.  Its a very excellent scrape I must say.  Surprised though, this is the boy who wouldn't use the nestboxes provided in West Winnipeg, nice gravel and everything, but come downtown and whiz-bang, he figures out what the gravel is for  ::)  Dope.

So what do I think will happen, looks at this point like Princess and Ivy are going to give it a shot,

I'm somewhat clueless about the dating rituals of Peregrines. Is it usually the male that does the home renos in preparation for eggs? I seem to recall the boys fly around to impress the girls - would that happen next? Is there any particular order things happen when Peregrines start their family?

ps - thank you Tracey and  everyone for the updates throughout the day.

So, just because that isn't the news that we all hoped for, that's no reason to grow silent.

Well, I am pretty much going silent, but not because I'm pouting at the news we didn't want to hear  ;) -- I'm out of town and won't be able to check the forum often until Monday afternoon.

If Tracy thinks that maybe Princess and Ivy are "giving it a try", then I'm glad to hear her very expert opinion -- despite wanting Trey to be back here where he belongs, mating with Princess. Still, nature will do what it will -- and this is really what I was asking a couple of days ago -- how long could Princess wait for Trey, given her need to mate and produce eggs.

I'll look forward to checking the forum on Monday to see what's been happening! Happy Easter, everyone!  ;D

Okay .. worked a little late .. and wandered home just after 6:00.   I barely looked ahead .. just gazed up hoping to see someone.  saw nothing  >:(

It's been such a busy week at work and that has been interfering with Peregrine watching and reading.

Well said. It's part of being human to fear for those that are important to one. But, children grow up, parents age and become dependent, pets die and we lose loved ones. The trick is to savour the now, live as much as possible in the moment and be grateful for what we have/had.
All that being said, I am so going to kick his sweet little patootie when he gets back.
Boys.........     ;D ;D

( and my bunnies would not make good eating, way too lean )  hee hee hee.

Lol..that's better  :P  Seriously I'm teasing you - I'd never eat a bunnie, well maybe if I was starving.. ::)

I can understand why people have gone a bit quiet, it's always hard when you are worrying about one of your falcons.  Regardless of the whole nature thing, they become part of your life and your heart and when one is late as in this case, it's sometimes hard not to fear the worst.

You are correct however, we have Princess and we have a piece of Trey in Ivy and we're hoping that Trey won't take too big a piece out of Ivy when he comes back either  ;)
