Just wondering, would a Peregrine still try to fly home in this or would they take cover and wait for it to blow over? 

Wait.  Definitely Wait.  Heck even the ones we have won't be doing anything.  Hunting is pretty much done for the day I suspect ... they tend to avoid it when its wet and blowy in town.  Besides which, the prey doesn't like to get wet either ...

Yes you are having wonderful weather down there.  I have the weather network on and it is a good thing the announcer is in Toronto because I would like to strangle him.  Going on about how MOST of Canada is having wonderful weather for this Easter weekend. Everyone except Manitoba and NW Ontario.

Wind warning for City of Winnipeg issued

North winds 60 km/h gusting to 90 are expected today.

A Colorado low will track through Minnesota today. This low will bring strong north winds 60 km/h gusting to 90 km/h today with periods of rain and even a few thunderstorms to Southern Manitoba today. The strongest winds will be over the Red River Valley. Rainfall amounts will generally 10 to 15 mm. However, areas of higher elevation on the edge of the Manitoba escarpment will get a mix of rain and snow. Local snowfall amounts could be up to 5 cm by evening.

The precipitation will intensify as the low tracks into Northwestern Ontario this evening. The rain will turn to snow tonight throughout much of Southern Manitoba. The most affected areas will be the Berens River and Poplar River regions where 10 to 15 cm of snow are expected to fall tonight. Areas in the Arborg and Northern Selkirk regions may see also near 10 cm of snow tonight. Elsewhere in Southern Manitoba snowfall amounts will be generally around 5 cm but parts of the Manitoba escarpment will see higher snow amounts.

The precipitation will move out of Southern Manitoba early Saturday.

If Trey does not come back, we will not know if his non-appearance means death, injury, or if he is with another mate, elsewhere.   Because he has become close to us, his welfare is important to us; it will be hard to take, not knowing what happened to him.

Well now, I was thinking about going for a walk and having a look-see, but if the weather is that stinky, think I wouldn't see any birdies at all.
Bet TPC will find one or two of them with the spycam today

Okay Environment Canada weather report for Winnipeg & Red River Valley as of 1138 hrs local ...

Today - Rain with risk of a thunderstorm. Amount 10 to 15 mm. Wind north 60 km/h gusting to 90. Temperature falling to plus 3 this afternoon.
Tonight - Rain changing to snow this evening. Snowfall amount 2 to 4 cm. Wind north 60 km/h gusting to 90 diminishing to 40 gusting to 60 early this evening. Low zero.
Saturday - Snow (snow?  ) ending in the morning then clearing. Wind northwest 30 km/h becoming light late in the evening. High 8.
Sunday - A mix of sun and cloud. Low minus 3. High plus 5.

Suspect everyone is going to tuck down and not come out unless they have to .... glad Dennis and I managed to get out yesterday to do a little bird snooping ...

Carly's Peregrine Dating Cliff Notes are very good ... and though we haven't seen point 7, things that we have seen could be points 1 through 6, they maybe only one of each.  If Princess and Ivy are "at it", they have been very very quick - quick as in almost from the moment he arrived!!  If they getting a "jump", they are ahead of schedule ... Princess' has been laying egg three progressively earlier since 2007 ..

2007 - April 27
2008 - April 23
2009 - April 22

As for how long will she wait for Trey - had a look back at the records and he returned on ..

2006 - can't find the exact date (yet) but I think end of March again
2007 - March 27
2008 - March 31 - this was the year Ivy came to visit
2009 - March 23 - ahead of a major US storm & about a week earlier than usual

So technically, he really late or not by much.  I'm not meaning to give you all false hope, just a response to your question.  Think about last year, there were a couple of abandonned nests when "old" mates reappeared.  On the other hand, Princess could know something we don't ...

Technically, she can wait for another month without any problems raising their young before everyone needs to migrate - we had another year that was this late - fledging late July and all worked out more than fine if I recall correctly.  Can't remember if it was a renest, could have been, but it worked out fine.

REALLY want Trey to come back...like...NOW!! - but do NOT want a nasty fight between father & son..... - well I guess we just have to wait some more......no sign of anybody today as of about 10 min ago. NOt surprised, it's HORRID outside - Rain, Cold, Wind -  YUCK!  - Maybe they're hunkered down in the West Nest - that's one good thing about this year so far - the Luxury Westside Condo seems to be the choice of residence - no need for Tupperbins this year!!

just a note to CArlys post at Gulf tower. the female Dori, did incubate the eggs yesterday and at times she does appear to be ready to lay eggs. a nest ot watch at present. Of course this one here  is key

If Trey comes back there will be a fight for the nest. you can only hope for the best situation or if not far along Trey will just chase Ivy away. But Ivy is older now so would imagine a fight.

In Ft. Saskatchewan a few years ago, the new male and resident  female had 3 eggs and the old male came back and ran off new male and did accept the eggs.  and young were hatched. (we had a transmitter male here and that is why the theory is starting to show that they migrate back later)

Sorry to talk about other nests here when you are all chomping at the bit. i am jsut giving you different scenarios.
As for not being here posting a lot , I am awaiting our peregrines and watching to make sure ravens do not make a come back.

I have long ago learned that as attached as we become , it is about the survival of the peregrine species.(does not mean I do not shed a lot of tears over them)

Oh what crappy windy weather we have today.   Strong north wind, not sure how that would be for flying into winnipeg.
