Saw part of the chick earlier this afternoon/evening.  Just before it started to rain.  BCCS saw it too.

I think so. ???    I've only seen the one egg cracked, but I haven't seen anything white and fluffy yet myself.  It's hard to tell with Princess all hunkered down, but I'm definitely glad that she is!  :D
Yup I did 2kawaii, very brief and so glad I didn't blink. But most definitely a baby birdie. ;D ;D. lucky us.

Is this the start of a chick hatching?
Way to go, KDR, for spotting the first hatch! :D And I missed it! Darn!  :( Will just have to wait to see it when it comes out on video! ;) That Princess sure is a "seasoned" mom, hunkering down, keeping her chick warm during this rainy time. She knows exactly what to do! :) Has there just been the one hatch? :-\

Believe that meal can wait.  Sooner or later Dad will bring lunch.  What's more important right now is to keep chick and eggs warm.  Chicks can't regulate their own body temperature until they are about 10 days old.  Princess is pro at this...is currently keeping all warm and dry right now going into "mom hunkerdown umbrella mode". ;D

So okay...does the 'Little Darlin #1' need to eat right away...or what?
I just told ya, I went for pizza, and call me Eye-spy on the forum, okay, darling... :)
Pfffffttttt,  :o    boys,    all about them      ::)
So it would seem...but someone will rescue us in hopes of an answer to my piercing question :)

Mom will call for daddy to bring a little snack within a couple hours, as long as the weather permits, and there are flying critters out to catch
Thank for the great infor 2kawaii

...and congrats to KDR...I too became a Hatchling earlier this afternoon

I'm with you Cara, does the chick need to eat?
So Princess gets to eat right after a chick is born...does this mean the chick has to eat too?  What if Ivy can't get back right away, can Princess feed the chick right away too, or do we have to wait for dad to bring home the bacon?

P.S. I just noticed that I became a hatchling along with the chicks  ;D

Water won't pose any problems in this nest TPC? ???

In order for water to be an issue at this nest site, it would have to be 310 feet above the Forks flood marker......

1832 hrs (local) - Princess looks to be eating eggshell, looks chick number one is on the way.  With the cooler temps, probaby one get much of a look at it though ...

Does anyone know why Princess would eat the eggshell?  Is it nutritious or tasty or is that just her way of vacuuming?
Mineral value, calcium etc, she's pretty depleated from all that output.
