True but during fledge watch it can get confusing sometimes about what you see or who you see. You've got 3 young to track, 2 adults and suddenly a parent starts alarming...birds are wizzing in all directions quite rapidly.

could it have been a merlin?

Juvies are out exploring and expanding their horizons at this point - well depending on when they fledged but they wouldn't really know much about who's territory is where at this point.

Now I feel like crap, it never even occured to me that it might be him. I sure hope it wasn't him and he got driven off :(. Might just have been a juvie from another site out exploring, there is another site downtown there Bev said.
CPF told me that a juvie could last about week without food...not sure if they could go longer...TPC might be better qualified to answer that question.
That being said, his siblings would recognize him I think. When one of juvies in Hamilton last year got hurt, he was in rehab about 1 week. When they released him back to the nest site, the father attacked him thinking he was an intruder. Miles was his name and so he fled to his brothers and when the male (dad) saw the brothers excepting him..he calmed down and then they accepted him back.
Linder:
You're right Sami, didn't even think of that, duh!
