I'm not sure what's going on here, seems strange but one of the birds has black bands it looks like so it's a Canadian bird.  Looks like the male but can't be sure as I can't seem to catch them together.

Here's a question (or three!):

I've been watching this cam for several weeks now this year, and it always seems to be (based on my intermittent viewing) that male who is initiating courtship, at least in the nest box. He seems the most persistent and usually hops into the box first. So hopeful! So persistent! Is this typical, in terms of gender roles, for peregrines?

Also, how long does the courtship behaviour continue? Until copulation? Until egg-laying? Until the birds actually start brooding, sitting on the eggs?

Do we have any more information on who these birds are this year? Are these last year's? Do they have a record of a successful nest?

Aw, gee, they are so beautiful and fun to watch . . . :) I'm so happy that I can "preview" these birds until Princess and Ivy appear on screen (always the main event!)

For folks who are looking for the webcam links, please remember that there is a special "link to webcam" page for this site ( Elk River board's main page )

This "link to webcam" page has all the links that work this year plus viewing information as well as information on the projects, blogs, galleries or whatever.  The idea is to provide a one-stop shop for basic information so that folks don't have to keep searching through threads or having to repeat information every year.

This year I am going to the old web address we've used in the past but the webcam comes up blank for me too.  I then pressed Home, scrolled down and went to the webcam from there.  Opened up fine.  Not the way I used to do til just a week or two ago.

If you are going to the original website and are getting everything except the video. Try goint to Tools, then Compatibility View.

Hope that helps!

...I don't have any problem accessing the cam using the link that is on "link to webcam" page - only difference is that one opens up a player before running the other runs from the GRE website and includes information about the site/birds ...
Yes, I do like being able to access the original link that you have provided, TPC, which includes info about the site and birds. But I cannot seem to locate a webcam on that page. I seem to recall having the same difficulty last year but can't remember why. Where it seems that there should be a webcam, all I get is a blank blue box to the left of some words that read "Great River Energy Birdcam" and a photo of a peregrine falcon. Don't know what I am doing wrong. :-[

I have the same problem.  I'm using the other link, but don't have the same clarity when I open it up to full screen :(

Empty nestbox at the moment.  I really like this site too, Baffled.

You probably aren't doing anything wrong KC, it is probably your browser software or a permission or something similar.  Chances are if one person has a problem, others do too.

Send me a pm and we'll see if we can't get it sorted.

Guy's in the nestbox, bowing his head and looking questionly at his Gal who's just sitting on the perch, looking at him.  He just flew off. ???

There's a falcon perched on a ledge outside the nestbox, calling out very loudly. Had to turn my speakers down... I cannot get the webcam on the link that you have posted, TPC, but can get it on the link that rcf has posted. Would you be able to put this link on the "Elk River - Link to Webcam" board? :-\ http://falcon.grenergy.com/

I have done so KC but I don't have any problem accessing the cam using the link that is on "link to webcam" page - only difference is that one opens up a player before running the other runs from the GRE website and includes information about the site/birds ... so folks if you have problems accessing this cam be sure to try both links!!

Two birds in the box this morning.  The male bowing and vocalizing while the female just seemed to glare at him, as if to say "what are you waiting for?!?"  She then flew off and he followed.  I can't see a scrape in the box, but my view isn't that clear... ::)

Wow, that's a easy way to identify an individual - nice when they have those kinds of markings!
