I do not watch here but when they were all snuggled during the night maybe she got suffocated???
Now they were jsut banded last week so to they can still check this out without fear of the kids flying right???
I cannot watch now but could someone pm when you find something out.
No way she suffocated being in a chickpile, doesn't happen. Could be a bacterial or viral infection or she could have eaten something that caused breathing problems or, or, or. Chicks at this age are hard to kill relative to a couple of weeks ago. I was watching yesterday and I can't say that I saw anything wrong with any of the chicks, but like most predators they tend not to show anything because they can't afford to be seen as vulnerable. Not that she has/had anything to worry about from her siblings, peregrines do not "practice" infanticide or siblicide. Hope Elk River will post the results, would be good to know from a management stand-point.
