West Winnipeg - 2025 / Tucker & Gertrude

Hoping to have an update on Tucker and Gertrude and hopefully their chicks in the next few days. Last I saw them, when Larry and I were trying to resurrect the cam, they were still incubating 4 eggs. Have to check the nest in-person which is always fun but these two parents stayed off the eggs for longer than I'd have liked. The weather was very warm (that's why I chose the day) so the eggs wouldn't come to any harm, but it did mean that any future visits will have to be weather dependent because the chicks should have hatched when I come next but I don't know if they will be old enough to thermoregulate yet. Don't have to worry about the sun here, the box is in the shade except for early morning - so warmer, light winds and little/no rain forecast will be ideal.

More news as I have it.

Not sure we will get the cam back up and running this year. We've had problems with this internet connection for years under Shaw but we have requested to resurrect our old partnership with the new Rogers management. It's a new thing for them so they are considering our request and we'll see. Maybe this year, maybe next year - either would be great. And of course Larry is imaging other alternatives but they would definitely not kick in until next year. It's been a "nice" nesting season so far, so not going to complain that I don't have more toys in my sandbox, rather I'm going to content with happy parents and safe & healthy chicks.
