Beatrix got a clean bill of health from the ophthalmic specialist - her eyes and vision are fine.  Now she needs to spend a bit of time in a flight cage getting her wings under her.  The folks at the Rogers Wildlife Rehab Centre are very pleased and encouraged that she will soon be ready to come home soon.

This is such good news!
If she is flown back to Winnipeg, will she be placed in her old West Winnipeg nest box, TPC?
I'm thinking not since it could be quite the conundrum, with Faith hanging out there.  :-\

With all the Winnipeg and Texas media coverage about Beatrix, thought I would give you the hard facts ...

Just so folks know ...
  • It was Carly here on the Forum who passed along the information & band number that a Winnipeg bird might be in Texas and that was how we confirmed her identity.
  • The folks from the BBL initially thought it was a Toronto bird then confirmed it was Beatrix from Winnipeg (that darn line between the band numbers).
  • We don't know yet if anything is wrong with Beatrix's eye(s) but the folks in Texas are concerned hence the reason for the vet visit
  • We don't have solid plans for her return/release yet, there are just lots of ideas being bounced around as possibilities.
  • The folks in Texas want to help anyway they can to get her up here safely (hence the GoFundMe campaign), what way that will be depends on the outcome of the visit to the vet.

If you have other questions, you know here is where to post them.   :D

Have also just finished chatting with the Winnipeg Feee Press and CJOB so Beatrix's 15 minutes of fame isn't over yet.

Look for the WFP story likely over the weekend. CJOB may start running it by about dinner time tonight and into tomorrow.

The Dallas/Fort Worth news outlet is the only one that has contacted the Project for more information however.  ;)

Well, that's just goofy ::)

Actually, have spoken to CBC Manitoba now - I emailed to tell them the photo in their story wasn't Beatrix and they emailed me back asking to chat a bit more about Beatrix.  Likely will be a web story rather than on one of the radio or tv news casts but who knows, might be a very slow news day.
