Just because Smiley and Princess have lost their eggs doesn't mean we don't have an interest in how they spend their summer, so I will continue to post updates and photos when I can catch them on cam.
I'm particularly partial to napping peregrine photos, something about a predatory bird that is the fastest thing on two wings sound asleep, sitting up, 30 storeys above the ground is one of those really cool things about nature. Like
mountain goats frolicking on ledges the size of postage stamps,
sperm whales sleeping like bats and
antifreeze frogs that hibernate in Alaska. But sometimes the goats don't make the jump, bad things happen to whales and sometimes there just isn't enough antifreeze for an Alaskan winter. And sometimes peregrines lose their eggs or their young.
We don't often get to see what adult peregrines do when they are empty nesters, mostly they are busy getting ready for migration. Now with Princess and Smiley we will see what they do with a few months of leisure time, likely still in downtown Winnipeg so they don't lose control of the Radisson, and then they will migrate, perhaps earlier than the rest, perhaps later - something to look forward to finding out.
And we get to eat our cake too, because yes, we do have other active nests and we can look forward to their adventures as well.
A little bit of everything for everyone.
