This is Hurricane.Female peregrine falcons are bigger than male peregrines which is the easiest way to tell Hurricane and Brooklyn apart. If you can't tell by size, Hurricane's cheek patch isn't as white or as big as Brooklyn's and the black at the top of the cheek patch looks like its smudged a bit. She has lots of white on her breast but it isn't as white as Brooklyn's and the speckles on her belly are darker.
Hurricane was hatched at the Radisson Hotel in Winnipeg in 2007. Her parents are Trey and Princess.
We named all the chicks that year after types of wind - Hurricane, Chinook, Taku and Mistral.
She was spotted in Grand Forks, North Dakota on her way to the McKenzie Seeds building in the spring of 2009. When she arrived, she paired up with Zeus, the resident male when his former mate, Holly, didn't return. That is how she became the resident female at McKenzie Seeds. Zeus and Hurricane raised four chicks - Fate (m), Luck (f), Karma (f) and Kismet (f).
The next year, Zeus didn't return and Brooklyn took over as Hurricane's mate and became resident male at McKenzie Seeds. They have been together for 4 years including this year. In 2010 Hurricane and Brooklyn raised two chicks, Mac (m) and Kenzie (f). In 2011, Brooklyn and Hurricane both returned and they had two young, Rain (m) and Rosser (m) and in 2012, they had three chicks, Sol (m), Hunter (m) and Maya (f).
