We've been waiting for some equipment to arrive so that we can retrieve the chicks from the nestledge in order to band them and relocate them to the nestbox.

What kind of equipment are you waiting for?   Are you not using the same company that you used the last time you had to up to the east ledge?  ???

We are waiting for the lines/ropes - they are a special order from the US and it was thought they would arrive last week but well, that's why it's called Murphy's Law.  Mostly we can over-engineer our plans just in case Murphy decides to participate, but sometimes it's just not enough.  In thirty years, we've only had 4 other chicks we couldn't band - all were because we couldn't access the nests safely.  We did band chicks from each of these nests however when they were grounded after fledging so though I would prefer the Radisson chicks fledge without incident, if they do go down and are re-releaseable (not a guarantee) then we'll band them then.

We've been working with a great company here in the City to get to the chicks but the delivery of some equipment has been delayed from the US, so it is entirely possible that we will not be banding the Radisson chicks this year.  There is a minimum age to band the chicks and a point at which we don't want to risk the chicks attempting to escape when we retrieve them.  Normally we aim for the minimum age so we reduce risk to the chicks as much as possible.  If we don't in fact band the chicks now, if they go down during fledging we'll band them then.  If they fledge without incident then they will remain unbanded and if they survive to next year, they'll be anonymous unbanded birds wherever they end up.
More news as we have it ...

Are you still making plans to band the Radisson chicks this week, TPC? ??? Weather forecast for the rest of the week doesn't look/sound very good. Possible showers till the weekend. :(

Sunny morning nap time continuing in the corner for the chicks, with Radisson on the ledge with them.

With the pulled out view, we can now see that this year's weed drop is coming along as usual.

Glad to hear the chicks are okay, inspite of the frequent downpours we have had here in Winnipeg today.

1907h - kids are still together and still a bit damp ... Mom and Dad haven't come in to keep them warm, so they must know something we don't.
Yup...they are officially teenagers.  Look after yourselves, and pay rent, this food isn't cheap!
