Both chicks are still on the ledge - the parents have been by with food a couple of times this morning and the chicks have been playing "king of the drain cover" ... male has been moving about on the ledge edge very comfortably but not alot of wingercizing so far, perhaps a bit too cool this morning to get him interested in flying?  At the moment, it almost looks like the male chick is lying down and female is on the drain cover and I would have thought it would be the other way around.  Just can't tell by the way they are perched/lying who's who for sure right now.

Winds are from the north and west today which will mean the ledge is more sheltered but they are breezy/gusty and stronger than they have been for the last little while.  If the male (or both) were to fledge today, don't know if the wind would play a part, depends which way they go and if they decide to keep moving or just park themselves and wait to try again later.

Weather for today & tonight ...

Day - Overcast with a chance of rain. High of 23C. Breezy. Winds from the NNW at 10 to 20 km/h. Chance of rain 60%.
Night - Partly cloudy in the evening, then clear. Low of 15C. Winds from the WNW at 10 to 15 km/h.

We had a severe thunderstorm watch overnight for much of southern Manitoba but it ended at 0416h.
Thunderstorms are still expected in southern Manitoba this morning but they are not expected to be severe.

Awwww, the Radisson chicks are being too cute ... she is lying down on the gravel by ledge edge where he has been sitting for the last little while.  Now he has decided to lie down on the edge right above her and he has his head hanging over the edge above her.  Since they are being so cute, I've zoomed in for awhile ... I'll zoom out again if I have to go away from the computer in case they move ...

Folks interested in fledgewatching this year (over the next couple of weeks) please send me a pm and I will add your name to the Fledgewatch board.
I would be interested in fledgewatching, TPC. I have tried to "PM" you but don't seem to be able to. Don't seem to be able to "PM" anyone else on the Forum either. :-\ ???

Weird, let me have a look at what might be up ... have added you to the Fledgewatch board ...

He's been wingercizing but by the way he drops his wings, still seems tired after short bouts.  Hopefully he is smart enough to wait until he's stronger or at least has a bit more stamina before fledging.

And given that the wind is shaking the cam, waiting until early morning when the winds tend to be lighter we definitely be a good thing!

Thank you Tracy.  He was hiding in the corner, I guess.  Now I see him.

Where did R-boy go?  I haven't seen him for at least a half hour.   ???

He's parked against the wall in the bottom/south corner ... have moved the cam ...

Wow, female has lost most of her downy feathers overnight!! Guess her brother told her he planned to fledge without her and has decided to get ready as soon as possible.

Seriously though, chicks are 38 days old today, by 40 days she will be old enough to fledge successfully though a few more days of wingercizing would help ensure she is strong enough.  And it wouldn't hurt her brother to get stronger as well.  Ideally we'd like both of them to stay above street level so hope for light winds so they don't have one more thing to figure out "on the fly" ...

0925h - male is lying down napping on the ledge edge (unnerving!) and the female seems to have lost a bunch of downy feathers overnight!  This week looks like fledge week - today the youngest chick are 38 days old ... we don't know who is the youngest so we age them both at 38 days.

If folks want to be involved in fledgewatch (a little or a lot) just send me a PM and I will add you to the fledgewatch board - this board is private because folks often need to discuss details that are important but don't need to be public.
