TPC, have you ever had a year before when it took so long to identify one of the nesting birds? At this rate, the chicks are going to be hatched and banded before we know the identity of the mother!  ::)

2100h, female is sitting on the sign but not showing me her bands and the light is going down ...

It's almost as if she wants to keep us guessing... ::)

as of 1545h, female is velcroed to the eggs just as she has been all day.  Doesn't look like hte wind is bothering her much but she does have her butt to the wall so that could be keep the wind from slipping under her tail feathers.  She's having a look around so it might be time for a shift change ... if we are lucky and it is, maybe she'll come up and sit on the sign so I can admire her plumage and her bling ...

Thank you. :) I take it from your above post that he went nameless until he showed up in Winnipeg in 2011. If he is that spectacular then he really does Brandon proud! ;D

We couldn't find a name for him in the records and he so impressed us the first time we saw him (yup, he was trying to kill something at the same time as he was courting Kate) that we knew he needed a name.  Also, he's from the old lineage, pre-Princess and Holly so it was nice to see him!  He reminds me of his uncle T-Rex most of all.

And I thought he got his name from his band number C over sidewise Y

In part, the other part was because of the way he rides the wind - first time we saw him do his death deflying dives amidst buildings, trees and traffic we couldn't believe how effortlessly he did it.  Scared the pants off us and we've watched alot of birds do their thing but Cowboy is an artiste.  The C and Y on his band made it easy to remember who he was if we saw his band again.

Hmm... Well I wonder if Ivy might have 2 families to feed, if he has previously shown an interest in several different females? Wasn't there a PF in the East who did that? A male PF who courted and fathered chicks from 2 different females? Can't remember which PF that was. Anyway, just a thought. ;)

Not unless he manages to kill or drive off Cowboy which is unlikely given Ivy's personality.  He's a good male but he's not hyper-aggressive - his father was more and his grandfather was off-the-scale.   Cowboy on the other hand is aggressive, we've watched him with the crows and ravens that nest in the areas he likes.  He doesn't even have a nestsite or eggs/chicks to defend and you'd think the crows/ravens were trying to steal his offspring the way he goes after him.  I suspect that it was Cowboy who was going after Ivy at the nestbox.  Cowboy got his name because of his death-defying flying skills - something great to watch, something wonderful to pass along to another generation, but I'd prefer if he didn't take out one of our other falcons ...

That would be Jack from Etobicoke at the Sun Life Centre.  :)

It is a good thing Ivy is a young and energetic PF, if he faces double duty of providing for a family this season on the ledge, as well as defending the nestbox for the future family home.
