Whew, good to hear.  I was thinking that if they are up on a ledge how can you still band them since they would jump off!  So this ledge is visible from the street?  I just can't picture it...  :-\

Nice pictures Dupre.  But are the chicks old enough to be up on a visible ledge?  I thought they were about the same age as the Brandon chicks!  Hmmm... maybe they are a bit older?  But still, on a ledge already?  Yikes!  :o

The chicks at this site are much safer than the Brandon chicks, the ledge is very large and there is a barrier to them getting close to the edge of their nestsite.

Yes RCF, it is very thrilling to see them with your very own eyes. Now I know how you feel :D :D

Took a tour in the West Winnipeg area, spotted Jules at the Diner.

After a few minutes and a dozen circles she returned to her usual perch. That's when I spotted one of the chicks on the "nest ledge". WOW, not so white.

That must have been thrilling to finally see the chicks!  Thanks for the report, dupre.

Thanks dupre, it's great to see them with your own eyes and not just on the camera.  ;)  8)

Took a tour in the West Winnipeg area, spotted Jules at the Diner. Here are a few shots. The light really shows off the salmon coloured breast.

Just after taking these pictures, Jules took off from the Diner. She headed to the nest.

Took a drive around looking for Beau, but did not see him. When we swung by the nest again, Jules was circling and not very happy with the goings on in the area. After a few minutes and a dozen circles she returned to her usual perch. That's when I spotted one of the chicks on the "nest ledge". WOW, not so white.

We had hoped to get to the chicks this weekend to band them but we have hit a bit of a snafu.
We will let you know what happens.

With all due respect, please define the snafu.

It's an military acronym which I shall translate as "situation normal: all fouled up".   ;)

Access is a problem at this site - that's the fouled up normal situation I'm afraid.  Last week we were unable to get access on the day we had planned for.  We feel we have abit more leeway to safely band the chicks here because of the location at the nestsite, but not much, so we are going to keep trying to get access, hopefully in the next 7 days.

Hope that helps ...

Took a trip past the West Winnipeg nest. I believe that it was Jules sitting watching over the chicks. At one point you could hear a bunch of kacking going on, but it wasn't Jules. She looked down where the chicks are, then took flight, circled once and landed back at her spot.

Maybe it's just timing, but I haven't seen any birdie at the Diner recently. Here is a picture of Jules which I took over a week ago.

Finally the chicks have left the tuppernest - took them three weeks to do it!  Nice thing about this is that at the moment they are in front of camera number 2 which gives us our best picture of them so far this year - three chicks looking plump and healthy!
So nice to hear that they all seem to be doing well! :D

Good to hear that you can get a better look at the chicks.  When will the banding take place here?

Not positive, access is still a bit of a problem.  Hopefully in the next week, but because of the location, we can probably do it the week after without danger to the chicks, so we have a bit of leeway.  Fortunately.   :)
