I also thought the egg looked a little strange. It does look cracked, but to me it looks like a half shell from a previous hatch has somehow stuck to one end of the unhatched egg.  I say this because the color between the two halves is very abrupt. I would think if this has happened it would be almost impossible for the chick to hatch...

Yes, that appears to be what it looks like and unfortunately, perhaps that is why it could not hatch. :(

That would be Brooklyn in the nest right now. There is a parade going on and he obviously doesn't like the bagpipe noise.   ;D
