McKenzie Seeds - 2012 / Brooklyn & Hurricane
moka:
Raining and windy! It's good to know the chicks are safe and the parent more protected than on a cliff top.
Not to say that she is having a pleasant time of it :-\
Moonstar:
Wow is it ever raining in Brandon right now. Poor Hurricane is soaked.
It sounds windy there unless that is thunder. I guess that is headed this way.
The Peregrine Chick:
A lovely day in Brandon ... :'(
Today - Thunderstorms. Risk of a severe thunderstorm this afternoon. Fog dissipating this morning. Wind southeast 30 km/h gusting to 50. High 24. UV index 3 or moderate.
Tonight - Thunderstorms ending this evening then mainly cloudy. 40 percent chance of showers overnight. Risk of a severe thunderstorm early this evening. Wind southeast 30 km/h gusting to 50 becoming west 20 late this evening. Low 10.
Rain isn't waiting for this afternoon, it is chucking down now on the cam and it looks like Hurricane weathering the storm with the kids totally out of sight .... she's soaked though, not surprising ...

I also thought the egg looked a little strange. It does look cracked, but to me it looks like a half shell from a previous hatch has somehow stuck to one end of the unhatched egg. I say this because the color between the two halves is very abrupt. I would think if this has happened it would be almost impossible for the chick to hatch. Just natures way I guess. :( Apparently this same thing happened in 2008 at James River Bridge in Newport News Virginia.
I tried to put a link in this post but it doesn't work for some reason. But here are some pics from James River in 2008. The pics of the egg look very similar to Hurricane and Brooklyn's egg and the James River egg never hatched.

Just take a very good look at the pics above. It seems like the hatching egg has manouvred itself into a half eggshell of one of the other hatchlings. And Elizabeth helped with her ellbows to push it into the half eggshell.
I feel sick in the stomach. If that is true the little one will die in the egg. It will never be able to hatch. It seems like it can get a little air but it will never be able to pip its way through two eggshell's
I hope I'm wrong, please I hope I'm wrong. But I am worried.
Take a look at this pic from earlier, you can see that it is an eggshell that covers one side of the egg.

Perhaps TPC will explain.

Hurricane just finished feeding the kids and I also get the speeded up video, it doesn't last long just a few seconds. ??? ::)
