::) ::) Watching the current view and down below there is a truck. Man hopped out and placed cones and then started pulling off a manhole/sewer cover. City wants to spook our Royals.  ::) ::)

Just back from downtown and haven't been able spot our first-fledger (green/silver) yet.  Not that that is a bad thing, he could just be holed up on a roof in a corner out of the sun thinking through his options.

So do Mom & Dad visit the little guy and keep track of where everybody is?  I can't remember from previous years........

Just a note - Hurricane in 2007 was our first to fly and she never came back to the nestledge and we only saw her for the first little while then she was out of sight though she would have still been in the dowtown area for another few weeks.  Now she's the resident female in Brandon with kids of her own.

So remember, the motto is: no news is good news until it isn't.  ;D

I don't think I was following the forum that long ago - that would drive me nuts!!!  I sure hope this little guy puts in an appearance soon....

I think we got spoiled last year, because they kept coming back and coming back, even after the camera was turned off.

Checked all the window ledges at the Radisson, Cda Post and City Place, and some back lanes - no escapee seen!

Liz, I am very sure that I speak for those of us who cannot be there, THANK YOU. THANK YOU to all fledgewatchers who are our eyes for being there to make sure our Royals are in a safe place and keeping us informed. All of you are incredible.  :-* :-*

...Quick question about fledging.....
I know Beatrix, the lone female in the Radisson nest last year was the last to fledge.
Do the females normally fledge later than the male birds and if so, is it because they
are normally bigger than their brothers? Or maybe it really doesn't make a difference?
Yes, Pense, the males generally fledge before the females, unless, of course, a female gets bumped and accidentally fledges prematurely.
Thanks Kinderchick.

Yes, so long as they know where he is (and they usually do even if we don't) then they will make sure he's fed.

Did speak with the window washers on the Rogers building and they are using bosun's chairs so it annoys the birds a bit (the same is used on the Radisson, but not necessarily considered a threat.  One of the adults had a bomb the Rogers building about two hours later to ensure that the guys understood that those were his babies over on the Hotel.  Ivy's was last seen parked on the antennae at the Radisson.

Did manage to get some great views of nearby rooftops this morning (thank you George!) and still couldn't see him so no news is good news for the moment.

Easiest way to tell the female from the males is that she has a longer tail.  Sounds self evident but she keeps getting it caught on the louvres or up the box side when she sleeps close to the wall in the box - yesterday evening was a perfect example of that.

Its getting warm out there which usually means the chicks will settle in to wait out the warm part of the day, so keep your fingers crossed that they will hang on a bit longer - weekends are always less busy in the mornings so always a better time for fledging ...

Any Forum Members wanting to join fledgewatch send me a private message (pm) or an email and we'll get you access to the Fledgewatchers board so you can set up times to meet and watch with others.

This is great news of the first (and very successful) fledge.  Good luck, Liz and any others watching from the ground!  Too bad about the timing of workers on such an "important" roof right now.   :-\

Process of elimination... just saw a yellow band and a white band and I'm guessing it's red who is too close to the camera to see, so that would mean silver/green boy is our fledger extra-ordinaire!

...altho' white and silver are difficult to tell apart on my screen... :-\

I'm in front of MTS Centre. There are 2 birds fluttering at the very south end of the ledge, and one half-way down.
