Will any Manitoba chicks be getting the antenna and "black box" this year?
Will the fact that they were unsuccessful last year make any difference to them trying again this year?

:)  The flufflings are playing stretch and peek-a-birdie from under the coziness of the Princess feathers!  They stretch a little wing and topple over!  Then go back into the huddle!!! :D :D

Any word on the where-abouts of Cade, Carson, or Beatrix?  Should they be having their own broods this year, where ever they are? :-\

:)  Yumyum time!  We just had our midmorning snack fed to the flufflings.  Little fluffling chirps and louder chupps were wonderful sounds.  Now they are all fluffled under the feathers of Princess.  (I am assuming it is Princess).

On another note, other than size, how does one tell the difference between Princess and Ivy?  I know Princess acts like a doting mother hen when interacting with the flufflings.  Are there subtle differences I should note and what are they?

I shall now be off to get out the peregrine dictionary!  Thanks everyone. ;)

In my opinion, Princess is an icon!  She, is by far, the true definition of the ever so powerful and protective, Peregrine Falcon!

Quite agree with you TPC, as I and others have watched this site for the last few seasons, Princess is a force to be wary off. At banding her mate Ivy calming sat on his perch and did nothing while Princess soared overhead and challenged the intruders, TPC and Dennis. Do not be fooled by Princess, she is the ruler at The Radisson.

Princess sure behaves like a little darling mother!  She reminds me very much of Tweetybird's Grandma!!  Love the way she talks to her little flufflings!!  Instead of cuddling her little ones, she fluffle-ups to them!

Boy-o-boy has she got you fooled RaptorGal  ;)

That is one mean mama!  "Darling" has never been a word I have associated with this bird - and though she's a Gramma a few times over, think the Queen from Aliens (the second movie in the series!!)  There's a reason there was blood all over the outside-nestbox-cam earlier this year, she beat the dickens out of Ms Hanky-Panky before sending her on her way.  And its not the first time she's done it, though it seems to be the first time she's left evidence behind.

Seriously though, try not to anthropomorphize too much about peregrine behaviour.  Princess is gentle with her chicks and we have all seen her go above and beyond to protect her young from everything/anything including torrential rain.  However, if one of her daughters were to turn up next spring vying for the Radisson territory, Princess would do the same thing she did to Ms Hanky-Panky.  And who knows, we had a black banded female at the nestbox right before migration (after Sandy left), that could have been one of Princess' girls and she could have been Ms H-P this spring, we just don't know.  So appreciate her for her devotion, admire her patience (at the moment) and enjoy her for her ability to kill dinner and then feed it ever so carefully to her chicks, but don't forget this is an specialized, apex predator that has fought its way back from the edge of extinction in this country not by being cute but rather by being a peregrine through and through.

If you are ever looking for something go to the home page and search using key words. In this case you would just have to enter dictionary.

Look for the Peregrine dictionary if it still exists and post your definitions there. This forum has always been a hotbed for new words.

And where is this dictionary?  I did not know of its existance. ;)

Great sound track.

Very windy out now - gusting to 67 km/h from the north west. Chicks seem to be tucked away safe and sound.

And now, another blast of wind.  Is that Princess?  I can't tell from the back.

I just assumed it was Princess because Ivy does not seem to be able to get all flufflings under him and he sits rather high over them.  She is covering them very well at the moment inspite of the wind ruffling her feathers all over.
