Have to admit, it doesn't look much like a peregrine to me....!

Nor to me Pam..........its looks more like a stylized raven that you would see on a totem pole.

Isn't this design also by Corrine Hunt, who did the Peregrine on the commemorative fifty cent (I think) coin, and also the designs of the Olympic 2010 medals?  If so it would reflect an aboriginal influence and perhaps even a Pacific coast version of the Peregrine.

it's not a matter of liking the design but the peregrine was made the first choice, that is the only reason i posted it  :-[

I drove over to the Mint today after school and picked up some peregrine falcon coins for my Kinderchicklets. There were plain silver coins and coins with a little bit of colour on them. Each could be purchased at face value, $.25, but they would not sell me more than 8 of each kind today. They said I could come back tomorrow if I wanted to purchase more. There seemed to be quite a steady flow of people picking up any variety of the special edition wildlife coins. 8)

So........!!!??  What does it look like?!  I have seen several commercials on tv about, "the fastest animal in the world who thrive in our cities" (aka, the peregrine falcon), what does this design look like?

I might just pop over there tomorrow, bcbird. The Mint is very close to my school. Today, several of my Kinderchicklet's parents mentioned that they were going to take their children over to collect a few of these coins. 8)

:) :) While watching the noon news today, they announced that there would be changes in how they produce the loonie and toonie, however, most importantly, they said a new series of quarters would be produced this year focusing on wildlife. The third quarter will have a peregrine falcon on it.  ;D ;D I had to share with the forum but didn't know where! This is phantastic news. Maybe they will ask Dennis for his expert input. 8)

The Canadian 2006 $5 coin and stamp set came with a booklet, it is a great set. The coin has great detail and is one of the ones TPC has at the top of the estore page.

There have been a few other peregrine coins in other countries, I have images of them along the top of the e-store page (http://www.species-at-risk.mb.ca/estore/e-pfrp-store.html)  For information on the coins themselves, move the cursor over the images, when I set up the store I added notes to each one of the images.  One even has a diamond for the peregrine's eye!

I, too, agree with you, Dennis.  In fact i find all of them are poor representations of what they are suppose to be.  The Mint has done so much better in the past.

That has to be the saddest looking Peregrine I have ever seen...I'm sitting on the fence about an e-mail to the Canadian Mint and Free Press...
No, no, Dennis, do not sit on the fence. Go for it, on behalf of all of us Phanatics. I'm sure that many of us agree with you. :-*

That has to be the saddest looking Peregrine I have ever seen...it appears to be more like West Coast Native Art.or a new design for the Fruit Loops box.
The folks that came up with this should really have a close look at a Peregrine. I think more detail for the coins would have been better...It appears to be the look that they are going for.
Wonder just how much it would cost to have someone come up this and hope that we like it  ???
I'm sitting on the fence about an e-mail to the Canadian Mint and Free Press.
Sorry, just my thoughts on this  :-\

I don't think the fine silver coin looks like a peregrine. It looks more like a parrot or a budgie to me. I know it is stylized but I never would have guessed that was a peregrine.

Silver "Our Lengendary Nature" Three Coin ($0.25) Set - $49.95

Silver $10 Peregrine Coin - $69.95
