Dennis and I spent the last couple of days chasing the West Winnipeg peregrines and trying to confirm whether or not they are ones being seen so regularly at HSC. They do get wanderlust during courtship but its been bugging us. But we couldn't come up with a reason for the WW birds not to be in WW unless they were at HSC. We have one now. We have a new pair in town. Meet Cowboy and Kate. Cowboy is a 2000 wild-hatch from Brandon who was last seen in 2002. Kate (or rather Katherine) is a 2005 wild-hatch from Fargo and there have been no reports of her since she fledged. We have no idea if this is their first year together or if this is just their first year together here.
For two peregrines "in love", these two are very quiet and secretive which is behaviour I have observed in the past when a pair has nested in the Radisson territory. We don't know where/if these two will nest but we be keeping an eye on them and if we can help them out to make nesting this close to the Radisson a little less stressful, then we will try. But it will depend on the birds and where/if they decide to nest.
More news as we have it.
