Hasn't rained since about 9:45  now it looks like it is clearing up, can almost see the sun and the streets are drying up.There's been little wind this morning so hopefully the forecast will be wrong for a change!

Looks like it's stopped raining for now and it's just dripping from the roof.

Hurricane and Brooklyn managed to feed the three fluffies just before it started to pour.

Which is worse......flies or rain ???  Once the chicks can be on their own, Mom and Dad can be outside of the infestation but the babies can't.   Not until they fledge.  Hopefully the fly season will diminish.  Wishful thinking on my part I m sure ::)

No shopping today, a little wet in the nest box but no flies!

Shift change - Brooklyn on duty and Princess is off to get cool and do some yoga ...

WHAT ? ?

Was she in town for a little shopping ?

You know, it could have been.  Hurricane is just like her mother, QUEEN of her castle......... probably just mistaken identity.

Yikes!  Biting flies and insects!  Hurricane is constantly having to shake her head to get them off her.  Boy, do I sympathize - the flies here are driving me crazy, too, but at least I can escape into the house.

It's been my experience that the higher you live, the less insects come around. The Radisson hotel is 30 floors high. The nestbox in Brandon so much farther lower than 30 floors. Ergo, the annoying buggy thing is more prevelant the lower one is.

And it is nature, the birdies have lived with this issue without any interference or input from us humans.  They will survive and flourish regardless.

Poor Hurricane, I think she has a biting fly or mosquitoes bugging her in the nest box.  One of the advantages of having a bit of breeze in a nestbox ... she is really really irritated by the little pest.
Is this unusual, to have so many flies/mosquitos hanging around the nestbox? ??? I haven't noticed such a problem, when viewing the Radisson webcam, or other webcams, for that matter. Is this perhaps because there has been so much rain and there may be lots of standing water in or around the nestbox, making a great breeding ground for mosquitos? Or is it because of all of the decaying "leftovers" in the nestbox?

I feel so bad for these poor birds.  I had to turn the cam off this morning.  I just couldn't watch them fight those gnats.
I guess we never had to see that part of the nest before we had the cam.  Never even thought of how annoying those pests could be.   >:(

If the falcons seemed a little disturbed earlier, there is a crew of men putting asphalt on the parking lot between the McKenzie building and the bank next door.

I was down at the McKenzie site at 11:45 am today, apparently right after a feeding. Rose sent me a few screen captures from then.
