We just watched a very nasty storm blow by from west over to the north - black skies, lots of rain/wind.  Lucky it missed us & the Radisson!

Doesn't look too bad at the Radisson but it is actually sheeting down outside the nestbox.  Where I'm huddling away from the maelstrom I can't see more than about 30 feet because of the rain if that gives folks from away an idea of how much its raining in the Winnipeg area.

Thanks TPC! I am so up on all this technology that I didn't even realize that you could plug ear phones into this here computer....Duh!
Now all I have to do is find some earphones........could be a challenge!
So glad Princess and the chicks are out of the wind and are dry.  Hate to think what the other nest site might have done to the family.....gives me shivers.

1400 hrs

Boomers began around Winnipeg about 1/2 hour ago ... lots of rain in places ... blew our power a few minutes ago ...

Princess is napping unconcernedly in the nestbox - wind has clocked around so not bothering her at all.  There is rain on the ledge and the outside part of the nestbox but she and the chicks are high and very dry for the moment.

1133 hrs - MEAL TIME

Yup, Dad went to get lunch.  Cacophany in the nextbox.  Neat how the little darlings can squeak and eat at the same time.  Effective too I daresay.

Two notes about listening to the microphone in the Radisson nestbox.

1) if you can't hear the chicks or think you aren't hearing them as well as you should, turning up the volume doesn't appear to help as much as using headphones/earbuds.  Check that your volume isn't too high and then plug into your speakers or your computer.  Folks have been finding that the headphones/earbuds help to block out other noises so that your brain can concentrate on the sounds from the microphone.

Usually I listen over my speakers at home or wear earbuds when I am able to listen at work.  But EVERYONE has to at least once listen to the nestbox with a set of headphones!!!  I just heard Princess preening her flight feathers - it was the most amazing  :o sound!  And when you listen to her shuggling the chicks, you can understand why they might protest!  (I use a pair of SkullCandy headphones and they are great)

1115 hrs

Ivy just had a serious yak about something (not defence or protest from what I heard) and then he took off north around the Hotel.  Can't hear anything on the roof so he might just have been saying, "off to get something for the kids, keep an eye on them" ...

1117 hrs

Herself has come back to the box ... quick check to make sure the darlings haven't gotten tattoos while Dad was on duty then back out to look around from the box edge and now back onto the chicks with pretty much everyone tucked up out of sight ... except for one butt on one kid ...

1107 hrs

Ivy is on the box edge in the corner with the outside box cam.  I can watch him on the skycam and his tail on the outside box cam.  Chicks can see him too which is why I think they are protesting ... not sure why he was protesting a moment ago, not a hard protest but rather a sort of half-hearted "where are you" one ... he keeps looking back at the chicks then has a bit of a preen, they he looks back at the chicks again ... chicks are rearranging the "pile" ... think Esmerelda wants back back to the bottom of the pile - don't blame her its cool out there today ...

Looks like Dad has come by to keep the kids company - he can't get them all covered so I'm afraid its mostly just for company.  As soon as he settled in behind them (he's blocking the wind for them), they all went silent.  Having one's Daddy nearby is always better than a teddy bear or a nightlight.

2) with the wind today, street/urban noises are much louder and finally you can hear the wind doing a bit of a howl through the louvres.  I found a video I made last year or the year before to catch the howl so I'll post that on the YouTube Gallery this weekend - the audio is what I was going for, so the video part is boring, its just of a wall.

They are twice the size since yesterday!!!  :o

Saw them standing together and am amazed and how they've grown!

Now that the Brandon chicks are hatching, you will really be able to see how much they have grown - oldest Brandon chick is hours old, oldest Radisson chick is 10 days old.
