Chick pile in the corner - a few heads bobbing up and down - but quickly falling back to sleep. So peaceful.

It's only 6 out now -but no wind and the sun is trying to come out from behind the clouds. Expecting a high of 20.

I found an older post from TPC to confirm what Dennis & Kinderchick just said.

Quote
The chicks get their water requirements from the food they eat.  Actually most of a peregrine's, adult or chick, requirements are fulfilled through the moisture in their food, but they do drink from water sources if the urge hits them, just not reliant on access to a water source for water as with many/most other bird species.  They also like to bath in the water, but it makes them vulnerable to predation, so not something one catches sight of often, I would assume that they would/could drink at that time too.  For those who noticed that when it rained, the chicks ran outside to flap their wings and "play" in the rain, that wasn't a response to the novelty of rainfall.

Ahhh, the raw meat -- well, that definitely makes sense! Thanks, everybody. You know how it is, once you start thinking about something . . .  I'm glad to know.

The chicks are flat out but for some reason they remind me of a "lump of lambs wool".  Soft and curly!
LOL! ;D They do look like little balls of lambs wool, Ellie! Especially the one closest to the camera.

...I always think that raptor chicks get enough liquid from the raw meat that they eat...
I'm sure that Dennis is right, Helen. My cats are on a raw food diet and they hardly ever drink any water and my Vet says they are getting enough liquid from the raw food (chicken, duck, etc.) that they are eating. :)

I had asked this question last year and agree it is not a stupid question.  if \I remember correctly they get enough fluid from the meat they are being feed.

One of the posters on the CBC site asked a question -- and was, of course, ridiculed for it...
I saw that question on the CBC website too, Saoirse. Too bad he was ridiculed because I think it was a legitimate question. And I also think that Dennis is correct in his response, but as he says, TPC can likely go into more detail and may answer the CBC posters question.

No such thing as a stupid question...I always think that raptor chicks get enough liquid from the raw meat that they eat. Just compare the size of a chick to the size of a human ? Just my thought...I'm sure Tracy will have a much better answer.

One of the posters on the CBC site asked a question -- and was, of course, ridiculed for it. I saw the question and the ridiculing comment and realized that I have no idea what the answer is. The question was, in reference to the chicks: when do they get a drink? Knowing how important hydration is to most living critters, how does this work for the chicks? If this is a stupid question, at least I don't mind asking it in the Forum environment!

Oh boy!  Have to work this evening and will get home late only to have time for a glimpse of these guys before it gets dark *sad face*

There's such a change in them every single day!

Old enough to be fun to watch without fretting about someone taking flight!  ;)

Chicks all lined up in the shade against the back of the nest.

I believe it's Ivy who arrived with a tiny chunk of food. Nobody is interested. He's waving it around and one of the chicks got up for a little snack.

Love this stage, their long wings hang around them like a shawl. They sit in the shade and let it all hang down. ;D

Those watching the cam this afternoon have had a "Birds Eye View" of the chicks with one of the chicks choosing to hang out in front of the camera.  It is amazing to see them so close!  One adventurous one even ventured out of camera view for awhile!  I love the camera view this year!  It is truly a delight to watch (and way too much of a distraction at work!).   :) :P
