Radisson - 2011 / Ivy & Princess

Kinderchick:
Was downtown on Fyfe's parkade for a little while with susha this evening. Around 8:30 saw a bird fly in from the east and land on the roof of the Radisson. Minutes later, it flew over to the Hydro Bldg., then we lost sight of him/her. Shortly after that, a bird flew in from the east and landed on the Radisson tower and appeared to tuck in for the night. Another bird made a fly by and then disappeared on the east side of the Radisson. Not sure which birds these were, but still nice to see them. :)

susha:
Well, the aerial displays might be done for this year ???  Kinderchick and I were downtown, watching from Fyfe's parkade from about 8:00 until close to 10:00 and there were no airshows for us  :'(  We waited for quite awhile and were rewarded by one bird, flying overhead from the east - we whooped and hollered, but it didn't stick around to perform any fancy feats.  Just kept on flying by, disappearing over the Hydro Building.  Then, a few minutes later, another bird appeared (maybe the same one) behind the Radisson and he/she flew to the communications tower, where he/she sat and then appeared to hunker down for the night, still on the tower.  We saw another bird fly past the Radisson, not to appear again while we were watching.  We planned to watch a little longer, but a couple of people came up to the top of the parkade, looking like they were not at all interested in falcon-watching and perhaps were interested in activities we weren't interested in watching ::) so we decided it would be prudent to leave.

Leana:
Just what I was thinking... if Ivy wanted to entice Princess to pair bond he might have more luck if he did a bit of housekeeping like his Dad used to do... ;D

Saoirse:
So, TPC, if Princess and Ivy are using the nestbox for a romantic rendezvous, can you see whether anyone has at least done a bit of housekeeping? Hmmm. . . the smell of rotting birdy corpses doesn't sound all that romantic -- guess you have to be a falcon!  ;D

The Peregrine Chick:

--- Quote from: The Peregrine Chick on July 28, 2011, 23:43 ---...A number of times Ivy was in the nestbox today, don't know if he was defending or trying to entice Princess to pair bond.  This is the first time he's done this this year, didn't do it yesterday, will have to see what tomorrow holds.

I'm a bit confused by this statement, TPC. Do you mean that this is the first time that Ivy's attempted to entice Princess to pair bond this season? ??? I thought they were pair bonding earlier in the Spring, before Princess layed her eggs. :-\

--- End quote ---

At the end of the season, when all the kids are up and flying and the adults can get back to the nestbox, they tend to renew their pair bond at the nestsite.  Sort of like sending the kids to college and turning their bedroom into a guest bedroom or an office, something for the adults that doesn't involve the kids.
