It is worrisome that no one has seen Beatrix - not with any certainty. I am anxious to hear from TPC (as is everyone), as to her whereabouts. Beatrix took off so strongly from the nestbox, from what we saw on the video from RCF, so that was a good sign, but not to see her flying around now at all, is a concern.
I haven't heard anything from any Manitoba Conservation, the police, vets or either of the wildlife rehab organizations, so that is good news so far. Remember, we found Fyfe within an hour or two and Carson was spotted just as quickly. Beatrix left the ledge when she was ready, which many birds don't get the chance to do. She was older than her brothers and had been practicing very well and as everyone has seen on RCF's video, her take off was strong and on purpose. Not all birds hang out around the nestsite - lots never come back. Hurricane is Brandon has done just fine and she fledged one day, I saw her briefly the next and then it was two years until we got a sighting of her in Grand Forks, then two weeks later she was in control of the Brandon nestsite. And while we saw Isis-Kali alot after fledging, Aura was not as obvious last year.
So while it would be great to see Beatrix as much as Cade, not all birds are the same. She may be sticking closer to her parents because they are the ones with food - remember Vesper bowling over Trey when he came for food? And how she chased him after she was returned to the rooftop? So please don't assume that because we haven't seen Beatrix that she's come to some horrible end. It is always a possibility given the high mortality rate for first year birds, but we do generally get reports quickly of injured and dead birds, and so far, nothing.
Also, we do have two chicks flying around downtown right now, so it is possible that we have had a couple of Beatrix sightings amid the Cade sightings - I certainly have to double or triple check when I'm using the cameras unless I see them a) together, b) somewhere familiar (the nestbox) where I can gauge relative size or c) see band numbers or tape colours.
