How do Peregrines meet?
This may seem like a strange question, but how do Peregrine Falcons meet?  ???
There aren't very many around, it would seem like finding a needle in a haystack.
Thank you!!  :)

Not a strange question at all Banane.  How do they meet?  Depends on when they meet.  Most peregrines get together at the beginning of the season, understandable, that's when everyone is looking for last year's mate at last year's nestsite.  If the mate doesn't reappear, another falcon passing through or hanging out a bit in the neighbourhood or from another nearby territory will fill the void - like Ivy and Princess and Beau and Jules.  Pairs that hook up beyond the breeding season (like Trooper & Clementine) either because a resident adult has died or didn't return, then a pair can go through a long courtship but won't nest.  Usually the new mate has been in the area unattached or is passing through because they are too young to breed (transient) or were without a mate of their own or if late enough in the year, already on their southern migration.

As for actually numbers, don't have current estimates, when I do, I will post them.
