Is anyone else getting dizzy from the wind shaken camera?

Yeah I bet Tracy, can't exactly speak in logical terms to a Peregrine Falcon who has other ideas.  I never thought about the circular motion of the wind hitting her from all sides. She's going to be doing a lot of preening when she has a chance to herself.

One of the problems the birds are having to contend with (in addition to the wind of course!) is that the wind in downtown Winnipeg gets spun about in the canyons formed by the buildings.  If the birds were in the nestbox, it would be windy, but not from every direction.  In fact, we made the new box deeper, so Princess could have been entirely or almost entirely protected from the wind while brooding.  Sometimes it just makes me want to scream!!!

oh lord Princess had her tail to the wall to the left and the wind still almost knocked her off the chicks. It's a wonder she doesn't lose her feathers with all this wind. She's turning again and will no doubt shift again with a good gust of wind because she has her tail feathers almost directly into the direction the wind is blowing

My oh my when that camera gets shaken by the wind I get dizzy trying to watch Princess and the kids. For now at least the sun is shining. If you all get the rain they are forecasting it's going to make for an unpleasant time for the family.

Since Trey will have trouble keeping the chicks covered (they are getting too big now), she will probably be doing most of the brooding, particularly if the weather turns rainy as it is forecasted to over the 24 hours.  Trey will probably either feed the chicks when the time comes or he'll be hunting for the whole family and dropping off food for Princess to feed the chicks and some for Princess herself.  It will be interesting to see how necessity changes their routine ...

Yeah I saw that Tracy, Princess finishing off what was left of lunch.  She was certainly doing some head bobbing that's for sure. She sure is low to the nest as she can get and face in the gravel too.  She's very dedicated to these chicks.

Just watched the chicks having lunch....it's 2:30 here on the island.

Wow they are growing so fast...haven't really seen them in a few days.

Pincess & Trey are very very good parents........very attentive and protective.

Hope the wind calms down soon!!!!!

Cheers
Marie

Ooooo, very cool.  Princess just ate the tail end of the meal - bones, feathers, whatever so that she wouldn't have to leave the nest.  Just yumped it down (there was some head-bobbing to help it go down) then moved over the chicks.  And there is nary a trace of the meal left on the gravel!  That will be a heck of a pellet when she finally yaks it up!  :o

ooopss it was Mum feeding the kids, she's got the kids tucked under her again and her body is facing the wall to the left and the wind is blowing against the length of her body at this point.

Funnily enough, rivalry isn't something that occurs with the peregrines and the competition at mealtimes is usually pretty fair/equal.  Keep in mind how many times a day they get fed and that they are really still quite small at this stage.  Actually, try to watch for their crops after meals.  It will look like a large balloon in/on their necks.  If they are very stuffed (not hard to do at this stage), it will bulge out  like a pink balloon!

Three little heads getting stronger at holding up with beak open ready for food. As Trey picks apart the meal you can see some feathers flying in the wind.  They all are getting a share of the meal :) Dad sure is a good provider for his growing family.  LOL two of the siblings are showing signs of sibling rivilary already.

The camera was shaking pretty bad there for a while. Seems to have stopped for the time being. Princess is still stuck to those chicks like glue. She is facing the cam right now so I can see a little bit of fluff peeking out. Ah darn she moved so now she's facing the wall again. I wonder if she notices a difference in the wind depending which way she faces. Gosh her feathers are just flapping away. Camera is shaking wildly again. Hang on Princess!
