1853 hrs (local) - its mealtime again and the chicks look good, dry and fluffy.  Jules looks like a wet cat but she's enthusiastically stuffing food into their little mouths.  One thing she hasn't learned to do is to exit carefully when she's going to retrieve food for the chicks - she tossed one of the chicks again and he is missing out on some of his dinner ... but there is still lots to go it looks like and they got fed a couple of hours ago so he/she should be okay until the last meal for the day in a couple more hours!  Tomorrow will hopefully be easier on them all!

1856 hrs (local) - chicks one and two and fallen into a post-dinner stupor and chick three is getting some chow - s/he's also improving his/her "scooting" technique and has made his/her way back to the two-chick-pile.  Looks like these chicks have good survival skills, they are following the food and sticking together!!

1545 hrs (local) - whomever was brooding (Jules I think) suddenly leapt off the chicks and tossed the chicks into a little line across the box...

LOL, TPC! I love your description! Sounds as if they are being well looked after.

1545 hrs (local) - whomever was brooding (Jules I think) suddenly leapt off the chicks and tossed the chicks into a little line across the box.  In came a totally soaked Beau who kept an eye on the little ones until Jules returned with food.  Now, these guys are really too small to move easily and can barely see (their eyes are closed when they first hatch) so Jules started feeding the middle chick and the two outside chicks had to work their way into the middle in order to get some food.  At the moment everyone is back together and Jules is feeding everyone nicely. And I think they have even moved another couple of inches further under cover.

1419 hrs (local) - watching Jules as she's sleeping on the chicks.  The rain drips off the roof of the nestbox and drips onto the back of her neck and wakes her up.  Insult to injury.  She is half-inside, half-outside right now but I think perhaps they have managed to move the chicks about 1-6 inches more "inside".  If the forecast for tomorrow is correct, both Jules and Beau should be able to bake in the sun on the edge of the nestbox while their chicks get to lie uncovered in the sun - what a change in 24 hours!

Got the first glimpse of the WW beauties today. You do such a good job Tracy. I hope the rain will stop soon and not rains for weeks.

Oh ya, when I first spotted them it was because they were both yapping. Heard them before I saw them.

That shift change was great to watch -- you'd never know that these two are new to being parents -- there was barely a glimpse of the chicks.

Thanks very much for the updates & videos of the West Enders. That Jules is a real beauty!
