I think that may be Ivy. He was off over cleaning up his "corner" a few minutes ago, so I think it's Ivy. :-\ He went to the ledge for a few seconds, to call out. Must be close to feeding time again! ;)

had both in the "nest" for awhile, I believe she "allowed" Ivy to feed them, but he's blocking our view.

think it's Princess.... not Ivy... just when I thought I had it all figured out........

It must be getting close to lunchtime.  Does Ivy know when it's time to bring food or does Princess call out to him to order the meal?  I've been doing some reading, but haven't found that answer yet...

...if i recall correctly (and there is by no mean any assurance that I do,)  I thought that TPC once said that Princess would decapitate any prey brought in before bringing it to the chicks (something about a disease found in the throats of other birds?)  but I see that she is just taking the food packages from Ivy and getting right down to the business of feeding...is Ivy decapitating the birds before bringing them in?  Or am I completely off base with the decapitation thing?  ???

You are right about that, jadoo.  :) That's what TPC told the Kinderchicklets last year. If you go to the Child Board "Questions from 2009" link and look for the heading, "Baby Chicks", she has written a very informative paragraph about the peregrine hunting process and the feeding of the chicks.

Was just waiting for the bus at MTS Centre - Saw 'Somebody' swoop off the nest ledge, glide around right above me  ;D ;D - back to the dot on the i, then off again to the 'R' on the Rogers building for a rest.  ;D ;D

Mayshowers, I believe that's Princess.  She came back while Ivy was trying to take a turn at feeding - Mom took the food and finished it off and dad flew away.  Princess settled down onto the babies.  I was hoping that Ivy would get a chance to snuggle with his babies, but guess Mom decided it wasn't time!

Just tuned in to see a feeding underway.  Then Ivy appeared with another morcel just as Princess took off to get rid of the dregs.  More food to get those babies fattened up!  Was that Ivy's first chance to feed the chicks?  I agree, Sue, it didn't look like any of his kids were interested in his attempts!

The thunderstorms seem to be ending, I can see blue sky out my window, and the parking lot lights are off in the strip mall across the street.  There is a lot of wind, the tree tops I can see are all swaying, some pretty hard at times.  Better weather for the birds has arrived.

I haven't been able to see Princess and Ivy together.  Is that Ivy on the chicks now?

Aww -  First time I've seen Ivy trying to feed the chicks and they were so full already there were no takers!! Finally gave up and ate it himself.   ::)

How many chicks hatched?  I knew about four eggs, I see what may be 1/2 an egg in the foreground of the picture, and the most I have counted is 3 chicks, I think, although a fourth could be hidden at the other end by the other 3.

Thanks anyway, I just discovered the new article saying there were 4 chicks.

I was wondering if Ivy was hatched in the nestbox? If so, would that be part of the reason he seemed to prefer it? I seem to remember a previous post in which someone (maybe TPC) said that Trey had been a east ledge hatch and therefor had a preference for it.

Ivy was hatched out of the nestbox on the Radisson and the box is in the same place but its not the same box.  Would this have an affect on where he has tried to nest - not from his past record ... he has tried to nest twice on the same building with two different females with similar results - both eggs were lost.  One of those females came from a nestbox too, so both of them, if there is preference for a particular type of nest structure due to where one fledges, it didn't work for Ivy in 2007 or 2009.  As for Trey, he and his mates Madame & Princess have nested more often in the nestbox than on the ledge, despite his having been fledged from that ledge.  The males make the scrapes in a number of locations - at the Radisson there are only two options - the females end up choosing.

Beau out in West Winnipeg didn't come from a nestbox but he refused to acquiese to Jules desire to nest where she had last year ... he kept dragging her off to the nestboxes ... and we are so glad he did!!
