Dgif quote: we have three very strong fliers. Saw Ethel come in for a superb landing on the roof. Saw the other girl fly from corner to corner before she made her first strong flight.
So far so good, only wish I could have seen them leave the cage.

Apparently the one on the cam fledged a few minutes ago. Not sure about the other female.

Fledged!
The male has fledged! He took strong flight gaining altitude before landing atop the Riverfront Plaza west tower to rest and enjoy a new perspective. Both of the females have left the pen. 02/AD is perched on the ledge and 03/AD is perched atop the camera housing. We will post more updates later today.

There's an article in the Times-Dispatch today about the opening of the cage door tomorrow:

Tks Pchemist for the info, glad I asked as I thought they were ahead of us in time. Am anxious to see what happens when that door opens, but am wondering how much we will actually get to see. I'm not sure how much area that cam is going to cover, so it might be a wasted effort trying to see anything.

They sure look ready to go. I wonder if they'll all take off right away.

Well Tuesday morning is the day the door on the cage will be opened. They say once the trigger mechanism is attached, it takes 2-4 hours for the door to open. The temp on Tuesday is supposed to be in the 90's so will probably not take the longest time to melt the ice. On the site they are estimating between 9 and noon Richmond time. Does anyone know what is the time difference?
