Now she's just standing in the corner of the box.

I know this is a bit long, but it shows her picking pebbles and doing some scraping.  It just looks like she may be getting ready to lay an egg.

I knew you meant to put in a timeline, TPC.  Thanks for the clarification.

Looks like we might be getting an egg soon!  Dad and the female (is it Dot?) were chupping awhile ago as he offered her a songbird, feathers and all.  She didn't seem to be interested, so he left with the untouched lunch and now she's moving around the box as though she might have a plan ???  Looks like she's cleaning up...and she looks a little bottom-heavy...

Wishful thinking on my part maybe... ::)

If they haven't nested (here or reported elsewhere), then you can give up hope for this site this year :)  Having said that Alice and Zeus (Brandon 2) were later than that even though they were successful, they were pretty darn close to pulling it off.

Sorry, TPC, you lost me ???  Did you mean "if they haven't nested - by a certain time - "?  like by the end of May or...??

Sorry tried to include two thoughts in one description.

Meant to say:
a) if they haven't nested by the end of May in the nestbox then they probably aren't going to nest in the nestbox this year.
b) if they haven't been reported nesting somewhere else by the end of May, they probably aren't going to nest anywhere this year.

But again that's the norm, there have been pairs who nest later but that's usually because they arrived later or they lost their first nest and are trying again.

Hope that's clearer    :D

I'm beginning to wonder if these birds are nesting somewhere else?!?   ???

Its still just April ... they have lots of time yet.  If they haven't nested (here or reported elsewhere), then you can give up hope for this site this year :)  Having said that Alice and Zeus (Brandon 2) were later than that even though they were successful, they were pretty darn close to pulling it off.

Some serious nest-cleaning going on now!

Reminds me of our good ol' Trey  . . . fond memories :)

Oh yeah, that would be something!  So many of us on the forum have always paid close attention to this nest so I think we kinda deserve it. ;)  Either way, good luck to nesting at Elk River this year.

Carly, heres info on the black bands from Tracy a couple weeks ago:

Though I love the idea of it being a Canadian bird - and a male one at that (we have very few males that have been reported elsewhere in recent years) - it could also be an older Midwest bird from the time before they went multi-coloured (black/green and black/red) or it might even be a bird from further out east - some of whom may still use/definitely did use black bands at one time.  All wild birds in the beginning of the project were black bands north/south of the border - they have just produced more and needed to expand their numbering and the multi-colours made it easier to ID.

I will love hearing what his band number is when its finally read!!  He's got kinda high speckles on his breast, might even be one of Princess' - after all, she's originally from Minneapolis ...
