Oh, that was wicked!  The chick went out to the far perch, and spread wings - the wind picked him up and he hovered a moment before regrabbing the perch, wings still spread!  Did it a couple times before leaving view!  So very cool!

One of the chicks has come for a visit.  Did a thorough once-over of the nest box to see if anything interesting had been left, and is now engaging in some preening, near the camera.  Looks a little breezy there.  I'm so happy they still come visit us!

someone asked if they stay standing like that all night.  I leave the cam on. and always have to get up and go to bathroom, etc, and they are always still standing looking out, sometimes Lightning has her head on the ledge, but most of the time they are perched.  Doesn't matter what time it is. Looks so cute.  It seems they get out and about between 5am and 6am there time.  They were all still there at 4:30 this morning, their time, but left sometime around 5am, I was making coffee and stuff so didnt see them wake up! lol I could only see one sitting way out on the bar on the right hand side, but now there is another one that just came in.  Now one has moved out of view, but think there is still two there.  Probably the third is out there too. I really miss the sound!!!!!!!!!

They actually sleep on the edge like that?!  I understand why Lightening might prefer to lie down.

Thanks for those, Aline.  I think we think it's Lightning who lies down. 

It is so great to see them all together at night.  It's fascinating that they do that!  I will be really disappointed when the time comes that I log in and they aren't there -- they're my evening fix.  These three characters took the sting out of TLC. 

I see we're back to cartoon characters!  I was kinda thinking the Three Amigos, myself.

To answer your question...  captures from last night.   One was laying down at 11:55 Elk River time.

Whenever I've seen them later at night, even 2am - they're standing - not lying down!   My budgies don't lie down either now that I think about it - birds don't lie down to sleep! LOL..

Do they eventually lay down to rest or stand there all night?    Yes, it's too bad we can't see from the front, afraid that would be way too darn cute.

I'm not sure how unusual this scenario is - where all the fledged chicks come back to the nest every night......but I find it such a magical picture. - The 3 of them side by side in a row, bathed in light -their birthplace behind them, gazing together out on the new world in front of them. The slow motion makes it even more captivating!  ....Now if only we could see them from the outside !!!!   - THAT would be quite a picture for Dennis!
