I know a scam when I hear one!  They haven't been banded yet.  Notice they didn't mention genders?  They're doing it tomorrow when the "maintenance" is being done.  Just watch - the cam will be clean and parent will be hanging close by. 

I agree with you Liz.  You would think if they banded them there would be a mention of gender and names the the kids picked.  Nothing was mentioned.  I guess we have no choice but to wait until tomorrow.  I look forward to post here about what is what here because I can't see anything at work.  I can get into the forum tho, so that is good.

hope so, it was fun watching him retrieve the birds last year and of course, clean the lens!

Sometimes its a case of having to do it and banding is the best time because you will already be harassing the peregrines - two birds, one stone so to speak.  And who knows, they may have video-taped the banding and you all will be able to watch it over and over and over again !

This is posted on the site (don't know when it came up because I had the window sized to the cam part only, and just now thought about seeing if they said anything and I didn't really think they would have because they almost never do but lo and behold there it was....)

Notice:

The Great River Energy Bird Cam will be down for maintenance on Wednesday, June 10 from 8:00 a.m. – noon (CST). It will be up and running as soon as possible.

Newborn peregrine falcons banded

Great River Energy, the Raptor Resource Project and Rogers Middle School’s After-School Environmental Explorers, participated in the banding of the four falcons on Tuesday, June 9. The falcons were born on May 19.

This is the third consecutive year that two peregrine falcons have made their home in a nesting box located atop the plant near the banks of the Mississippi River. The students from Rogers Middle School will name the birds.


so, it seems to me it's already down....  and they didn't tell us the genders, either!  but at least we know all is okay.

I'm just rooting for no poop! a little windex and some towel and some serious scrubbing!!

notwithstanding the poop, every so often one chick will stand back far enough and take a good look at the cam as if to say, hey, what's that?!

tomorrow morning for the banding and lens cleaning, woohoo! then clear viewing!!!

Thanks for the heads up kittenface.  Those 4 chicks look big and healthy.  Good luck to the biologists tomorrow who will have to deal with that big mama.

you know, they COULD change this to the outside camera like we had at hatch time.   

I'm really annoyed that all the cuteness is being hidden by poop!  Can't wait for banding so they can clean that cam!  You just know those chicks are looking at the cam in a cute way, and we're missing it.
