sometimes when I'm trying to sleep I can't quite figure out what to do with an arm (like on my side, it's in the way).  That's what it reminds me of with their wings.

Look at the size of the chick pile, and one isn't even part of it!

If you watch during feedings, you'll see how the adult legs are yellower than the chicks.

You can see that right now with the Radisson chicks getting feed--their feet are still whitish compared to parent's.

Chick feet tend to start out this sickly grey-green colour and as they eat more and more wild birds they yellow up.  Times vary from chick to chick too.  Chicks in captive breeding programs tend to have lighter coloured/grey-green coloured legs for longer because they are fed domestic birds - chicken/turkey/domestic duck will keep they grey-green, japanese quail is sort of somewhere between wild and domestic and there is some change with that.  But its the wild stuff that really makes the legs/feet go that violent yellow they have as adults.  Captive adult birds legs tend (general statement) have lighter yellow legs because of their diet.

Short answer, don't worry, they'll go yellow ...

Looking forward to watching these chicks practice their wing flapping as they grow into becoming "fearsome flyers."

Although, fledging is quite a nerve-wracking time. Remember last year when one chick sort-of fell out of the box onto a ledge below before she was fully fledged? These chicks better not participate in any of those kind of shenanigans . . .  oh, who am I kidding, I'm sure there will be lots of drama and excitement as they learn to fly!

nope.  and it's gonna get worse before it gets better.  it's so interesting when they are still mostly white fluffball buit you can see the flight feathers showing up giving a hint of the fearsome flyers they will become.

The chicks look so funny in their growing-flight-feathers phase: all scruffy and mangy. Adolesence ain't easy.

ahhhh now one has moved into the sun and is using the edge as a pillow.  I'd forgotten how cute that could be!

four faceplant chicks along the back of the box, two closest to cam facing forward and two farthest facing the back.  everybody's in the shade and it's very sunny there.

a calm picture and nice to see.
