I haven't seen him out there since the 28th of September, so I guess he may be gone!

Hobbes is still here, he was sitting by the old raven's nest out of the wind yesterday and perched in the sun today!

We saw two falcons today from the east side where you can't get very close. She was sitting in the old Raven's nest on the one stack and he was on the other.

And the other day we saw them perched across from each other on the lower catwalk.

We saw two falcons out here this morning. I don't think this is the same female from earlier this year, she has a band on the left leg only and the one from earlier in the year had no bands.  This girly is probably passing through at this time of year.

I couldn't be sure if it was Hobbes we saw but she was in the cubby hole eating and as we drove up a falcon (male) flew up to the cubby hole never enter and fly off.  She didn't stay long after leaving the cubby hole, she cleaned her beak and was gone.  We checked the other side and they were both gone or perched where you can't see them.

We haven't been out here for a bit, been kind of wet. We saw Hobbes today but not his lady friend. We saw her last week so she is probably still hanging out with Hobbes.

Crazy, but happy birds :)

I think at this late date they would be unwise to try and lay eggs - but stranger things have happened

Personallly I think they may well be playing house - all the motions without actually having offspring.  A bit like we will see once the chicks at McKenzie Seeds and the Radisson have fledged and we will see Ella & Pip and Hurricane & Wingo Starr renewing their pair bonds by scraping, bowing, etc - basically all the same things they did in the spring.  This would be great for them as a pair and might greatly improve the chance that they will return next year!

If they did have chicks, they would be pressed for time in the fall for the chicks to learn what they need before they have to head out on migration.  Not that they couldn't pull it off, but it might not be as successful as they (or we) would like.

Will be interesting to see what happens over the next couple of weeks - either they will obviously be incubating something, or you should be able to see chicks feeding or poking their heads up over the nest edge or the adults will be doing pretty much the same thing they are doing now.  The first two options would be fun but fraught with stress hoping the chicks survive - the only other time we have had chicks at this site they were predated when we thought they were too old/big to be at risk.  What we learned was that they are never too old/big to not be at risk!

Can't wait to see what you see next out there RCF!

Not sure what these two are up to!

She showed up on the rail and I didn't know he was in the nest until he popped his head up!  They chatted a bit, she ignored him ::) a bit, then he left. She then went into the nest, she didn't settle right away...maybe getting the feel of it! Could they have eggs......hmmm! They probably just playing house in that nest the Raven's vacated in the spring.

I guess we will just have to wait and see!   :)

Nice photos RCF!

Especially nice that it is a Brandon bird back again - and that it is one of Sol's and Hurricane's, they weren't as successful a pair as she was with Brooklyn or with Wingo.

That thump on his wing sure is noticeable, but that may have more to do with placement than anything else, the feathers there are small so losing them makes it very visible and it will take time for them to heal.  If he's up and about and bathing then it is obviously not a problem for him at all.  And hanging out in the Brandon area means he has lots of places to roost safely (with his lady friend), lots of prey (urban and otherwise) and lovely places to have a spa day like in your photos.

Maybe if these two stick together you could have another pair to enjoy next Spring RCF!

Well done & congrats on your ID-ing your returnee!

June 16 2020

We saw two falcons out here this morning, one banded and one not banded. They both had a bath in the river so I was able to get a band number for the male, the female looks young.

I was so surprised when I got home and checked my photos. The male is "Hobbes" from 2016, one of Sol and Hurricane's boys.  He was the wall walker!

When they were bathing I got his band number, I also noticed he has an injury on his right wing.  He's flying well and was at the top of one of the stacks earlier.
