2020 NESTING SEASON

Cam is not online yet - looks like a very nice responsive website.  They don't seem to have information on last year's resident pair on the site however.

2018 NESTING SEASON

Can't tell how many eggs, but Mom is sitting on it/them.
Oops! Mom stepped away briefly. There are 4 eggs.

2017 NESTING SEASON

The Bowling Green pair had their first egg on March 14.

The second pic is from today, and the female does not want to allow a peek at the eggs.

When I checked the site today, all three chicks were safely in the nest box. Good to see.

Only two chicks are visible; I think one may have fledged.

The resident female at this nest is Aerial, banded black/red 65/H , born in 2009 at the Rhodes Tower nest in Columbus, Ohio. She is a daughter of the great pair Scout and Orville.

The resident male is unbanded.

The chicks have changed so much in just a few days.

It occurs to me that there is another one like this at a library in the Midwest - I'll see if I can find it ...  :)

Nope, just one that looks like it at the Evanston Public Library in Evanston, Illinois

That would certainly explain my inquiry. Thank you TPC!

??? There are eggs in this nest, I watch this one daily. The shape of the nest puzzles me.

It may be that this is where the birds like to nest but the ledge itself isn't safe, so they have fabricated a safer one.  Many of the older buildings built on campus here and similarly aged/designed buildings elsewhere in Winnipeg will have ledges that slope to help keep water from collecting and damaging the building - that can be a problem for eggs and chicks.  By building a box that uses gravel, they can replace the gravel when it gets nasty and they can insure the gravel doesn't get scattered around or off the building.  It would be interesting to see what the nestbox looks like from the outside and how it fits into the architecture.
