The tragic loss of Eaglet E14

Today is a very sad day at the southwest Florida nest. Our beloved eaglet, E14, passed away during the night as a result of injuries sustained yesterday.

From the site:

It is with a heavy heart that we confirm the passing of our precious E14. Rest In Peace little one.

Essec09 (Admin): It is with much sadness that SWFEC must share with our viewers that E14 passed away sometime during the night. Our SWFEC family mourns the loss of this special eaglet that brought such joy to us all in the short time they had on this earth. We will be opening chat later today.

Not even a month old, E14 was born on December 19, 2019. This bright, beautiful, intelligent eaglet charmed everyone who saw him. He was simply the best little eaglet anywhere. He will be very much missed.

The cause of his injuries has not yet been confirmed. However, several people have indicated that they believe this was caused by a fish hook. A couple of people have claimed that they saw images showing a fish hook.

I was watching yesterday and did not see a fish hook, but the injuries (under his left wing and to his left hip) did look compatible with such a cause.

This was a very tragic and sudden loss.  :'( :'(

A note has has now been added on the site that at 11:54a CROW arrived with a bucket truck to remove the body of E14.

I think the eggshell from the first egg ended up sliding over the second egg, and that Harriet has now removed it:

One very precious and beautiful tiny eaglet:

The Southwest Florida nest site is on pip watch, and the first pip in an egg was seen early this morning!

I hope everything goes well for Harriet and M15.
