Radisson - 2015 / Smiley & Princess

for those who think the ledge is always a disaster. our RAdisson was hatched on th sledge by Princess

Out in the wild the cliffs are not perfect either. Some o four biologists are reinforcing areas where they are finding them nesting, to give them a better chance but they still can get lost in flash flood.

And  I know it is a long shot but just maybe one will make it. who knows for sure. I never say never.

Something we should all remember is that this type of "tragedy" is a fact of nature.  These are wild birds and they lose their young and eggs all the time, from many causes.  Wild birds cannot be forced to nest where they do not want to no matter what humans want or think.  Keep in mind the many, many successful hatches and fledges we have been honored to witness at this site.  All that said, my heart hurts for Princess and Smiley this year.     May they successfully nest again.

This comment may be wrong to some, but, I'm thankful they were just eggs as there is less emotional attachment to eggs.
I just wanted Princess to let go and fly away.
Tomorrow will be another day for the birds.

Is there time to re-nest, if the eggs aren't viable?

I hope so Liz.  I know other species of birds re-nest.  But P.F.'s not sure.

Well - that's it - until that deadly ledge is somehow taken out of commission for nesting - I'm out - Can't watch this year after year. 

I know how you feel, but really it's not year after year.
2008 was the last flooding, now it is 2015. 
I'm looking forward to the rest of this year and next year.

This is nature - happens to so many nests that we don't see.  That's what I kept thinking when we lost the TLC.  The birds will move on though and that's the good news.  No grieving for them.

Yes, I couldn't watch. The memories of the Lost Chicks were strong.
Hoping for the best, but with a heavy heart . . .
