One of the three eggs is now up against the outside wall on the nestledge ...

Thank you for posting about the ledge TPC, but besides reading about what is happening - I would greatly appreciate being able to view the ledge cam as well, since that was their nest.

Watching a tragic event on any live bird cam is difficult, and at times I’ve had to turn away; although, I’ve also found that watching how the birds deal with grief was often healing, (and always a learning experience).

I would like to see how Princess and Smiley are handling their particular situation, and also if they might begin to show signs of nesting again.

Is anyone else interested in having the ledge view?

One of the three eggs is now up against the outside wall on the nestledge ... it was with the rest when the sun set last night, by sunrise this morning it was about 3 feet away ... can't tell who or what moved it ... winds weren't enough I don't think (the winds can be markedly stronger a few storeys above the ground downtown) so perhaps one of the adults during a visit at night.  The Radisson peregrines often visit the nestbox and nestledge in the middle of the night - we've made note of these night time visits over the last few years with the webcams, not just with Smiley & Princess but with Ivy and Trey as well.

Just because Smiley and Princess have lost their eggs doesn't mean we don't have an interest in how they spend their summer, so I will continue to post updates and photos when I can catch them on camera.

And we get to eat our cake too, because yes, we do have other active nests and we can look forward to their adventures as well.

A little bit of everything for everyone.

Thanks for posting this, TPC. My interest is strong in knowing what they do as you say, empty nesters. I often look at the CBC cam  hoping I catch one or the other sitting there. I hope CBC keeps it running. You never know how often you may catch a view of them.

Just because Smiley and Princess have lost their eggs doesn't mean we don't have an interest in how they spend their summer, so I will continue to post updates and photos when I can catch them on cam.

I'm particularly partial to napping peregrine photos, something about a predatory bird that is the fastest thing on two wings sound asleep, sitting up, 30 storeys above the ground is one of those really cool things about nature.  Like mountain goats frolicking on ledges the size of postage stamps, sperm whales sleeping like bats and antifreeze frogs that hibernate in Alaska.  But sometimes the goats don't make the jump, bad things happen to whales and sometimes there just isn't enough antifreeze for an Alaskan winter.  And sometimes peregrines lose their eggs or their young.

We don't often get to see what adult peregrines do when they are empty nesters, mostly they are busy getting ready for migration.  Now with Princess and Smiley we will see what they do with a few months of leisure time, likely still in downtown Winnipeg so they don't lose control of the Radisson, and then they will migrate, perhaps earlier than the rest, perhaps later - something to look forward to finding out.

And we get to eat our cake too, because yes, we do have other active nests and we can look forward to their adventures as well.

A little bit of everything for everyone.

I agree, ballywing. Still sad not to have Radisson chicks this year. But at least Princess & Smiley can relax now & enjoy our warm, sunny weather. :-\

Can't help but think how lovely this warm clear weather would have been for newly hatched chicks..   :-\  - Oh well, nothing to be done about it.  8)

Smiley napping at the Hotel this afternoon.
I tried to get a photo of Princess but she was sitting in the sun and it was too bright, made the whole image too washed out.  Will wait until she comes to roost in the shade later today.

Okay, sounds like most folks want to know so I'll post about it when it happens.  :)

We're a curious bunch. All peregrine information is good.

What happens to the eggs is part of the story.
I'd like to hear that part.

Yes, I agree. It is part of the life (that we see) of Princess and Smiley.
