Oh, dear. One of the chicks fell over onto its back and can't get up.

#3 on the way!  Or is that the funny colouring you mentioned before?

No, I think that is a hole in the egg - and likely the hole that Princess was playing with earlier this morning - will have to see if that is the start of another chick or a damaged egg ...

Bahahaha, Smiley brought in food for Princess, he went away and came back with some more food and tried to feed the kids.
Princess stole the food from him, chastised him and now he's gone.
Seems that Smiley is quite crafty and very, very smart.  ;D
Love him :-*

1441h - Princess is talking and I can see a chick head over her shoulder so I think there has been a formal request made to Smiley to bring home the whatever-he-wishes-to-catch for a mid-afternoon snack.

I also noticed the different type of prey coming in and have not seen one pigeon so far, was wondering what the new prey was, and what happened to the pigeons.

I love Smiley's persistence.   ;D

When he brings in food - take a look at it, so far it looks mostly like large passerines though it is hard to tell what exactly.  Noot sure I have seen a pigeon in the bunch and I'm not sure there have been any/many shorebirds either - he likes to leave the legs on and I'm not sure I've seen shorebird-long legs.  Not sure where he's hunting but he's persistent about his choice of prey as well.  They may be smaller than Princess may want at this point but they aren't easier to catch so point definitely in his favour!

And she seems to be shuggling and moving and maybe encouraging... ???

Maybe just wishful thinking...

We'll all be happy with whatever we get ;)

I hope you're right about that egg!  I noticed she's definitely intent on keeping them warm, as she's still tucking them in after feeding.

Went back to check the video and just two chicks during the last meal I'm afraid.  Interestingly, when I checked another camera angle, I saw Princess doing something with one of the eggs, like picking at the shell - I don't think it was just the surface.  Could be we have another hatch on the way or maybe the egg is non-viable ... Princess has always been difficult about keeping her back to the cameras, no different this year!

I thought I saw three too, but then decided it was just an open beak.

just saw another feeding, not sure but was there 3 chicks, looked like Princess was feeding a little one in the front but could be wrong, she might have just been cleaning her beak.  love watching the feedings.
