FYI, it was flying very slowly upwards, struggling to make it to the upper corner, so if it hit the wall that I can't see from my window, it should have been fairly lightly. I just can't tell from here what it may have fallen down to, if that is what happened.

Thanks. It would have been on the north west corner of the Delta, which would be around the corner of St. Mary's and Carlton. The other bird is still sitting up on the same corner that the one was trying to fly up to.

Closet birder, I've sent a message to TPC's email regarding your post that you think a peregrine may have hit the wall. You may have already done that but just in case.

Not sure but one of them was just trying to land on the north west side of othe lower section of the roof, and appears to have hit the wall, but I can't see that side. It was flying upwards to the ledge and then disappeared.

Is it possible these are different falcons? I can't imagine that would be possible with how territorial the peregrine's are.

Have been watching the falcons fly around the top of the Delta again this morning. Haven't got a close up view, but they are definitely flying like falcons, and are a goldish black colour. There is one on East side of the lower roof right now.

I suspect that this pair will not be like the family groups we have had in the past couple of years.  I suspect that we will not, or only very very rarely see them on camera again this season.  The last couple of years we have been very fortunate that the chicks returned to the nestbox pretty regularly and we could watch them for a bit longer, pretty sure that won't be the case with this pair.  We've had other nests like that - Hurricane and her band were like that ...

TPC, do you think the fact that the chicks were raised on the nestledge as opposed to the nestbox influences this or is this not a factor?

No, we've had nestlings that have been thick as thieves on the ledge and in the nestbox.  Hurricane and her sibs split up pretty much right after fledging but last year, the kids returned to the nestbox all the time.  Vesper, Ty & Tupper were very tight and they were on the ledge but it looks like Hillary and Tenzing are happy to be off.  Each nest is different just as each bird is different - it's what makes them fun (and frustrating) to watch.

Forecast for today in Winnipeg ...

Day - Clear in the morning, then partly cloudy. High of 27C. Winds less than 5 km/h.
Night - Overcast. Low of 16C. Winds less than 5 km/h.

Looks like a nice day for the chicks to work on their flight skills with these light winds!  Problem with being able to fly is that they are hard to spot of course  ;)

Could only find Ivy on the Radisson sign before the light went down but from what we have seen today, Hillary and Tenzing look to be faring very well and their parents are keeping a close eye on them in their travels.

And you can really see the size difference now between the chicks - definitely a male and a female.

Thank you to Feather2Fin and TPC for the info about how the fledglings are fed and trained.  It's a pity that can't be captured on the cams.

It's so good to see them together.  They're obviously able to gain some altitude now.   ::)
