How exciting!
Thank you for keeping us up to date, TPC.
Would this nestsite location allow for banding?

1701h
Just got our best look so far of the chick/chicks.  I suspect that its just one, seems like an awfully small ball of white fuzz to be more than one.  The light truly sucks now and it's not going to get any better before the sun sets today.  Tuesday afternoon is suppose to clear up so hopefully that will make it easier tomorrow.  At least we know that we have chicks hatching, now it will be a case of will they all hatch, then will they all make it past 10 days and then well, you know the routine  ;)

Yup, at least one chick hatched as of about mid-day today.  Going to have to go through the recording slowly to get a more accurate time but it was between 1200 and 1300 it looks like right now.  Jules still hasn't gotten off the chick(s) yet and no meals yet, when either of those events happens, hopefully we'll get a clearer look (no parental obstacle) and perhaps a better count.  Or we might have to wait until they are a bit bigger or its a bit brighter/sunnier ...

Camera angle isn't great (nest isn't in the same spot as last year so only one of two of the cameras can see the box and its at a great distance away) and neither is the lighting but I think perhaps we had our first hatch here in the last hour/hour and a half.  Jules isn't moving off the nest which isn't a surprise given its cool and still damp and no food has come in, if there is a hatch, I don't expect any for a couple of hours, chicks need a bit of rest after working so hard. When I do get a look will let folks know what I do or don't see..

This evening I spotted Beau and caught a few shots just before he flew off. These are at the limits of my camera's capabilities.

Looks like Beau is on the night shift these days.  Took until 0900h this morning for Jules to come back and relieve him - he'd been on since way before 0500h and perhaps all night but I'll have to go back and check for outlines of incoming birds to be sure.  Very much a change from last year when he only came to the nestsite in the wee dark hours and then Jules would only let him stay for a couple of hours before she would take over again.  Still eggs at this site, but probably not for much longer.
Someone was sitting on the corner of the diner at just after 6 this morning. I guess from this it was Jules.
