Thanks TPC.  As far as the time for the project, I was thinking more of how long the researcher would keep putting transmitters on the fledglings to have the sufficient(?) number needed that have transmitters that remain functioning for a year.
Must be very frustrating when they don't transmit for long enough.
So much of a puzzle, then planning, permissions, then implementing...

Sorry, my fault Des.  The deployment of transmitters is only for a limited time is my understanding.  The transmitters themselves will keep broadcasting as long as they are a) on the bird, b) undamaged and c) their batteries keep getting recharged by the solar panel.  Could technically be for 10 hours or 10 years I guess.  Transmitter failure is not uncommon.  There is a tundra female with a transmitter who has been transmitting year-round from Chile to Baffin Island (often through Manitoba) and back again.  This is her fourth year transmitting.  Right now she is at her usual nesting location and she should be there for another month and a half before starting her southward journey.

Great news about the successes of both Hunter and Sol.  Must have been so much fun to watch them both, RCF.  Thanks for sharing those photos and the stories.  We can even see Hunter hovering in one of the photos!  ;D

Wow, you have SO many wonderful photos this year... what are you going to do with all of them?

I don't know, I never really thought about it.  :)

Went back through the recording to be sure and yes, it's Sol and Maya at the nestbox right now - he's on the left, she's lying down on the right.  Just need for Hunter to come home and everyone will be dry and warmer for the night ...

Looks like Sol is the male in the nestbox ... looks like white tape on his left legband ....  Maya is off somewhere else on the roof but now that the rain has stopped Sol has popped up on the front of the nestbox to have a look around.

Which side is the colour band on? left or right

coloured band (black) is on the right leg.  Left leg has a silver band with coloured tape - red for Maya, white for Sol and green for Hunter.

Sol flew from the annex building over to the communications tower after Hunter fledged. Hurricane enticed him with prey to fly which he did and he flew over to the west side of the McKenzie roof where he was rewarded with a kildeer.    :D

RCF, thanks for the slide show,,wishing I could see the live action from here.

Right now, Maya is on the ramp, one of the boys inside in the gloom.
