Radisson - 2012 / April

What nobody was out today looking skyward...nobody driving past cranking their neck out the window while stopped at the light/driving down Portage. I drove all the way back from Elie to only find Jules perched where she shouldn't be perched ???
And then a run down town to see one perched in the nest box after finding nothing at HSC.
So after I finished my coffee break it was back to work.

Had a buzz by the Radisson this morning and there was our girl playing Guardian-of-the-Nestbox  - she was just perched there like an immovable object, very imposing and impressive.  Ivy we saw over Portage and Main and then over the Red River immediate east of there (and north of the Provencher Street Bridge).  At the time we wondered if he was off hunting but by the time we got to HSC we could see that the Immovable One had moved, so probably an aerial courtship flight.  Same pattern as we have been watching in West Winnipeg actually, so it may be that the West Winnipeg and Radisson birds will be much closer with their nesting/hatching dates than they usually are - usually WW is a couple of weeks behind the Radisson.

It was a nice day for courtship flights, the wind was picking up in open areas by 11 am so soaring flights would be much easier - yesterday, Jules and Beau had to work a bit harder to get where/how high they wanted to go because of the lack of wind.

I didn't see them today, most likely wrong place at the wrong time ( me ).

A friend in Charleswood phoned be around 6:15 or so tonight. Said she saw what she was sure were 4 peregrines very high up and there was definitely a big chase going on.  She didn't get to see them that long.

Mother Hen is quite right, not nice weather at all for birds or humans, too cool and damp to be very comfortable outside, it gets into your bones and takes a while to warm up.

Much, much nicer today -- surely the sunshine will encourage Princess and Ivy to hang out at the nestbox and maybe even decide that it's the place to settle.

I saw Ivy yesterday at about 3 pm. He made a nice lazy circle around the Radisson and then landed on the platform on Pam's building.
No sign of Princess.

Both Princess and Ivy (unless there has been another eviction) were on the west side this morning.  Princess was on the nestbox edge looking out over the world.  Ivy was sitting below her on the top of the R.  And they showed absolutely no sign during those 3 hours of moving.  Mother Hen is quite right, not nice weather at all for birds or humans, too cool and damp to be very comfortable outside, it gets into your bones and takes a while to warm up.

It's encouraging to know that at least someone is hanging out at the nestbox, Pam -- with any luck at all, Princess and Ivy will settle there again this season!  :)
