Just finished dinner (eaten 'outside') . .three chicks have gone back to the strip of shade for a nap. One chick is out enjoying the sun shine.

It rained a bit downtown earlier on - not hard - just big drops and it didn't last long. Sun is out now.

Boomers overhead - but no rain at the nestbox yet.  One of the chicks is lying on its belly with its head out from under cover nibbling on a wing - if the rain matches the thunder rolling through, that chick will probably scuttle back inside quickly enough that it could be very funny ...

Everyone is spread out in a little strip of shade along the back wall.

Where did all those dark feathers come from?  :o They sure grow quickly.

Is this really ahead of schedule for banding?...
I don't really think this is ahead of schedule, Moonstar. The chicks this year were born much earlier than the chicks of 2009 so they would naturally be banded earlier. I think that the chicks are typically banded at 3-4 weeks, but TPC could better speak to that.

I guess I worded it wrong.  I did not mean ahead of schedule for this year but ahead of other years.  Normally they are not banded this early in the year.  Not anything to do with the age of the chicks this year or other years.  Yes I do realize they get their bands at the 3 to 4 week age.  I just meant that most likely because of the warmer weather this year things are earlier.

That year they were 9 days old on June 6th. That was a miserable year. For some reason I remember Princess incubating with a ring of snow around her. Wasn't that the same year?

Sure looks like all the "kids" have the itches going on - preening like mad.  Rather funny to watch. ;D

I will be at work when the banding takes place.  Our IT dept has disabled watching streaming videos.

If anyone could capture the banding and put it on you tube it would be greatly appreciated by me and the many others out there who can't watch at work or for what ever other reason.

Is this really ahead of schedule for banding?  Back in 2008 when we lost the chicks on June 6, were they not quite young and that was one of the reasons they could not survive the cold rain?

;D Three chicks having a get together in the corner under the cam. One, (Margaret?) looks around as if to say, "Where's Waldo"? Waldo is in his/her favourite place in the far corner trying to get a snooze. Margaret saunters over and gives him/her a few pokes, very little response from Waldo. She gives up and rejoins the others.  ;D ;D ;D

... One chick, the same size as him, Margaret? pecked at his beak a few times, chased him outside and started to scream once he left...
LOL! Sounds an awful lot like our girl, Vesper of a few years ago! ;)
