Just checked the cam and of course all is well in the nest box.  As a poop shot flew I couldn't help but think how "rank" that nest box must be in this humidity and heat!!!!!! OOOEEEE!  Guess they are used to it by now.

All 4 kids are out enjoying this nice morning.

A parent stopped by about a 1/2 hour ago (heard the screaming kids when I was out of the room and arrived in time to see parent exit). Not sure if it was a food drop - it if was, then it was a small one . . .although this gang seems to graze all day  ;)

Yes birdcamfan, it did rain last night.
It's 19 now with a high of 24 and thunder boomers expected today.

Forgot to add . . .saw somechickie do a big wing stretch while doing a poop shoot and he/she kept his/her balance the entire time.  First time I've seen such big wings this season. . .. .Let the wingersizing begin!

Where's the thumbs up emoticon??  All is well at this nest, thats for sure.  Between Princess, Ivy and Tracy I have not worried once!

And down comes the rain to cool things off.

TPC, thank you for the postings, in various threads and sites, describing and explaining behaviour you have seen during banding and continuing on the cam.
These past two days have been packed with excitement and information!

Great photo and great explanation. Thanks, guys.

At first glance, I also thought it was Ivy, gosh, I nearly said Trey. The size of the chick makes the adult seem smaller.

Hope the birds get some relief from this heat  :P

Great capture Leana. Thank you commenting on this behavior TPC - very interesting.

All 4 chicks are outside wandering about. It's now 26 w/ humidex of 34, but with the sun down it makes it seem less hot.

Darn it!  I just assumed it was Ivy ( ::)) cuz he likes to hang with his kids and it just didn't look like something Princess would do.   Ah well... someday I'll be able to tell them apart without scratching my head...

What an unusual sight a little while ago... Ivy perched on the edge cuddling with a snoozing upright chick... For a while he was balancing on one foot.

When you see a scene like this it's hard not to "amphomot..." (whatever) them.  It's just precious!  :D

This actually started with the chick nibbling on its parent's toes, something these little terrors do to one another and to their parents at this age and stage.  The chicks have not been able to get comfortable in the heat and they have taken to trying to sleep sitting up, frequently with their heads propped against the back wall of the nestbox or on the edge of the box - this one has found the most comfortable pillow that is for sure!!

What is most interesting is that this is Princess - sorry Leana  ;) - the lighter crown of feathers gave her away, the speckles on her breast too.  She doesn't usually tolerate nibbling and she does not like to sit in the heat.  That hopefully means the temperature is starting to drop some.  She also doesn't usually hang around much after bringing in meals to the chicks, but again interestingly, she was doing some beak-to-beak feeding tonight which isn't wildly unusual for her with chicks this age, but again, she doesn't like to hang out in the nestbox when its hot if there isn't a breeze.  It may just be that it has been so hot that she has not been visiting as much as she would have if it were cooler.  Once she was in the box with dinner, the hardwiring to hang out with her chicks may just have been enough to keep her there longer, and tolerate more nibbling and playing pillow since she's been keeping cool elsewhere so much over the last couple of days.  As I said, kinda interesting ....

Love the screen capture Leana, nicely done!
