Looks like Cowboy and Kate will be nesting at the Canadian Science Centre for Human and Animal Health this year.  They laid one egg on a low roof which is not visible to the Radisson.  We also found evidence that there had been another egg there (an eggshell) but no indication what might have happened. 

This is very egg-citing news! And how appropriate for them to be nesting on a centre for animal health!

Anyone going by the Centre, please note that this is a secure federal facility.  

There is no public access to the grounds and no photos of the buildings are allowed. 

The Centre is very enthusiastic that the peregrines might be nesting on their roof this year.  But please be aware that the grounds are private property and security, regardless of what you are doing or why you are there, is going to do their job.

So that you can enjoy your visit with the peregrines, please play by the rules.

Looks like Cowboy and Kate will be nesting at the Canadian Science Centre for Human and Animal Health this year.  They laid one egg on a low roof which is not visible to the Radisson.  We also found evidence that there had been another egg there (an eggshell) but no indication what might have happened.  The rocks on the roof are standard roof rocks which mean they are too big for a proper scrape so we put a nest tray (ie: tuppernest) at the nestsite made a scrape in proper size gravel and moved the egg.  A check of the site today and it looks as though they have been in the box but incubation hasn't begun so we will just have to see what happens.

It could be that their egg is not viable and they won't lay anymore.  It could be that this is egg two and three and perhaps four are on their way over the next few days.  We will check again next week to see what happens.  This is a new pair so we don't know what is usual for them so all we can do is wait (impatiently) and watch.

Looks like Cowboy by the size...been sitting on the HSC smokestack for most of the afternoon.  He was sitting there for about an hour - took off for awhile -
now he is back again.

Both birds were at HSC for about 1/2 hour.

Looks like Cowboy sitting on top of the Buhler building. Some birdie had breakfast here this morning - lots of feathers and remains on the ground down below where the smokers stand for their morning coffee/smoke break.

Cowboy and Kate were both hangin' at HSC this morning - each on their favorite letters.

These two are still narrowing down their options  - more news when we have it.

Kate is up on the Feb Lab building, snuggled up against one of the walls to protect herself from the wind.

With this variety of sightings, is it likely that they are hanging around but not nesting, or does anyone have suspicions of egg laying having happened?

We've been checking buildings but so far nothing.  We have one more they are showing interest that will get checked this week.  Its not a building we have ever been on, so no idea if they have started without us.  We do have an idea for one of the sites we have checked, not sure what to do about another one (fortunately not a front-runner).  We'll just have to see what we find on this next roof but it looks like a possible.  Unfortunately, not our decision so we'll have to help out where we can and leave Cowboy and Kate to let us know what they decide to do.
